This article contains spoilers for the musical Wicked/Wicked: For Good.
The first half of Evil was an incredible success, making the wait for the second part even more difficult, but a certain promotional image of Glinda creates some concern for the second film. The musical Evil has long been a mainstay of the musical theater sceneso its 2024 film adaptation was a surprise success. The film received praise for its stunning direction and visuals, courtesy of director Jon Chu, and moving performances from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. However, despite these positive reviews, Evil: forever must still maintain its landing.
An interesting element Evil it's how it's being transformed from the book and the musical to the film. Although many aspects Evil seem identical to the story the audience already knows, others are a little different. For example, Erivo's version of “Defying Gravity” differs from that of Idina Menzel, and the visual experience is obviously quite different with CGI than on stage. In many ways, the changes in Evil make the movie much better, but sometimes changes can cause interruptions which have unexpected but dire consequences.
One of the Wicked trailers shows Glinda in a wedding dress, walking down the aisle
Glinda and Elphaba's Relationship with Fiyero Explained
Evil: forever There is still a year to go before the premiere, but trailers and previews have already started to appear. In one of these trailers, there is a shot of Grande as Glinda wearing a wedding dress and walking down the aisle. There's no need to be one Evil superfan to discover this Evil: forever could include a wedding between Glinda and Fiyero. However, anyone who knows the musical will notice that marriage never occurs in the original musical, and this change can be more painful than it seems at first glance.
Elphaba and Fiyero's relationship remains unexplored, and he remains in a relationship with a not-so-clueless Glinda.
For context, Wicked: Part One features Fiyero as the airheaded and charming prince of Winkie Country. Glinda is immediately attracted to Fiyero due to his status, while Elphaba is repulsed by him and his idea that life should be worry-free. Of course, Later, Fiyero proves to have more depth when helping Elphaba rescue a tiger cub from Shiz, and the two form a tentative bond that feels more intimate than friendship. Elphaba and Fiyero's relationship remains unexplored, and he remains in a relationship with a not-so-clueless Glinda.
Wicked Part Two is probably replacing Glinda and Fieryo's ball with their wedding
What will Glinda and Fiyero's wedding lead to
In the original Evil musical, the second act shows Glinda and Fiyero announcing their engagement and holding a ball to celebrate in the Emerald City. However, considering the photo of Glinda in a wedding dress in Evil: forever trailer, it looks like the prom is now being converted into a full-fledged wedding. Again, this may not seem like such a big change. An engagement and a wedding have practically the same meaning and the same people will be present. Furthermore, no matter what the event is, it will lead to the same conclusion.
According to the story of Evil, Elphaba will return to the Emerald City during the ball and/or wedding. Your mission will be to free the flying monkeys from the Wizard's clutches. The Wizard tries to convince Elphaba that he is just an ordinary man, not a monster, and she sings the song “Wonderful” with him. However, once Elphaba encounters Dr. Dillamond, who has lost the ability to speak, she vows to take down the Wizard once and for all. Surprisingly, Fiyero leaves her engagement ball to help Elphaba on her questleaving Glinda heartbroken.
Wicked doesn't really need a scene where someone is left at the altar
How a Wicked Wedding Changes the Context of the Scene
The crux of the problem with turning Glinda and Fiyero's engagement into a marriage is that this makes Fiyero's departure even more tragic. When Fiyero chooses to go with Elphaba, it is devastating for Glinda. However, there is a big difference between abandoning a recent commitment and leaving someone at the altar. Glinda will be so close to getting what she wants, but it will be taken completely out of nowhere. To some, this may seem too low for Elphaba. It could make it harder for Elphaba and Glinda to forgive each other.
Ultimately, there's no telling what Chu has up his sleeve Evil: Forever, but this change could make the second film even more intense and dramatic. The romance between Elphaba and Fiyero is just a small element of the larger storyand arguably his relationship with Glinda is far more important. In this way, the Evil the wedding could harm the most important relationship in the entire film. Then again, maybe that's the whole point. Anyway, Evil it looks like it will be a major cinematic event in 2025.
