All over My Hero AcademyIn Deku’s story, many unique and important characters are introduced in Deku’s journey to become the best. Among them all, All Might is often described as the most vital to the story because he gives Izuku the tools to achieve his dreams. Certainly, All Might continues to be fundamental to Deku until the end of the series, as a mentor, role model and even friend.
However, when closely inspecting the events of the series, another character stands out for how crucial his contributions were to Deku’s success. This character not only provided vital support and motivation for Midoriya, but also played a vital role in him being accepted into UA High to pursue his dream of becoming a pro hero.
Without Ochako, Deku wouldn’t have gotten into UA
Izuku wouldn’t have gotten any points on the exam
Without Ochako Uraraka, Uravity, Midoriya would never have been admitted to UA High, completely changing the course of history, as proven by the results of the entrance exam that both heroes took. One of the protagonist’s first challenges My Hero Academy franchise was forced to overcome was the tough UA High entrance exam. During this event, candidates were forced to fight an army of robots who acted like villains.
The young aspiring heroes’ scores would be determined by how many enemies they could defeat. From the beginning, things weren’t looking good for Izuku, who had almost no experience with his Quirk, and spent most of his time panicking without getting a single point. If his place in Class 1-A had been determined solely by his fighting skills, he would never have gotten into the school of his dreams.
Deku’s saving grace came in the form of Ochako Uraraka, a fellow candidate who was caught under the rubble of buildings destroyed by the massive Zero-Pointer. Midoriya demonstrated his worth by fighting this imposing opponent and saving Uraraka, unlike the rest of his colleagues who decided to flee and protect themselves. It was this selfless sacrifice that granted Deku enough rescue points to be allowed into the hero course. If not for Uraraka being present at the same examination grounds as Izuku was, the protagonist would have failed the first test.
The series makes this clear by later showing how Deku’s actions inspired Uraraka to try to donate her points to help him get into UA All Might’s hologram goes so far as to state that no respectable hero school would fail such a heroic individual. In a universe where Ochako didn’t take the exam with Deku, he wouldn’t have been able to prove himself, failing to pass the exam. Toshinori may have given Deku the various powers within One For All, but it was Uraraka who helped him prove he deserved to be a hero.
Izuku was also vital to the story of Uraraka
Uravity wouldn’t have gotten enough points without saving Deku
While it’s true that Uraraka was instrumental in starting Deku’s heroic story, the opposite is also correct. During episode #4 of My Hero AcademyOchako’s score appeared on the screen as Izuku was informed of her results, revealing that she had only acquired 21 villain points. This was too low for her to be accepted into UA, meaning she wouldn’t have been able to follow her dreams if it weren’t for Deku. As your best friend, she also received a large amount of rescue points for helping Midoriya during your time of need.
After defeating the Zero Pointer, Deku was seen falling to the ground at an alarming speed, with only a healthy arm to help him. His thought process was interrupted by the burning pain of having both legs and an arm broken moments before. When he was seconds away from dying in the accident, Izuku was rescued by Ochako. Although exhausted and in pain, Uravity used his Quirk to float on a piece of the giant robot and slap Deku in the air, stopping him from falling.
This action granted her enough redemption points to enter UA, giving her the opportunity to become a hero and help her struggling parents. From then on, their futures seem to have come together, becoming one of the most beloved duos in the series and anime in general. The fact that both Izuku and Ochako needed each other since the first time they met is an incredible addition to the story, making their already healthy relationship even better. It’s also a clever foreshadowing for the rest of the series, as Deku and Uravity will always be there for each other, even when they’re at their lowest.
Although Izuku may have started the My Hero Academy series with no one to support him, by the end he had a vast and incredible assortment of friends ready to help him achieve his dreams. They are all equally important for Dekubut there is no doubt that Ochako and All Might are probably the ones who contributed the most to its success.
In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child he always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia revolves around Deku and a class of heroes in training at UA. This school turns young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off against dastardly supervillains.
