Campbell Miller is one of Territory most important antagonists, with the first season leaving their fate questionable. Netflix’s neo-Western series depicts the succession crisis of the wealthy and prominent Lawson family following the death of Daniel Lawson, which leaves the world’s largest cattle ranch without a leader. The Lawson family makes up the majority Territory cast, but The show also vitally explores other political factions and actors competing for power in the vacancy that Daniel leaves behind.
Among these players is cattle baron Campbell Miller, played by New Zealand actor Jay Ryan. He is described as a rags-to-riches character type who has accumulated local power through questionable and violent means. Throughout the season, his men are shown stealing cattle and shooting Marshall and Sharnie, demonstrating that they are not the take-prisoners type. Campbell Miler is one of the most vicious and direct threats to the Lawson family, unlike Sandra Kirby, who approaches her goals more tactically.
Is Campbell Miller really dead at the end of Territory season 1?
Campbell Miller is shot and hospitalized, but his death is uncertain
Territory The end of season 1 shows a climactic shootout at a location known as “The Sorry Place”. It is indigenous sacred ground that is not officially labeled as sacred ground from a legal perspective, allowing Sandra Kirby the basis to destroy it and make room for roads. To do this, she hires Campbell Miller as her muscle, who gets there and prepares her explosives. The Lawsons and the indigenous community arrive to try to stop him, and a shootout begins. Once Miller knows he is lost, he detonates the explosives out of spite.
Furious at Miller’s reckless actions, Nolan goes up to him and shoots him. It appears he is planning to execute him, but instead shoots him in the upper chest, near the shoulder. The shot is not immediately fatal, but Sandra Kirby later suggests that there is a possibility Campbell Miller may not survive his wound during his flight to Singapore. Territory Season 1’s major deaths include Rich and Susie Lawson, so eliminating another Miller character could leave Season 2 without much of a cast.
What Campbell’s Survival Could Mean for Territory Season 2
Campbell Miller may come back for blood
Sandra Kirby’s phone call with Nolan suggests that she will hold Miller legally responsible for the operation she hired him for if he survives, but it remains to be seen whether she will follow through with it. Given Campbell Miller’s history with Emily, he now has a clearer vendetta against the Lawsons and would become an easy tool for Kirby to utilize further. He may be away for a while, but Territory I could see Miller coming back for blood against Nolan, Emily and Graham.
A power struggle erupts after the death of the Lawson family patriarch, leaving his massive cattle ranch without a clear successor. Rival factions, from cattle barons and indigenous elders to billionaires and gangsters, vie for control. Tensions rise as the once-dominant Lawson family faces betrayal from forces within and without.
