Vault 13 canceled by developers

Fallout Fans were almost universally impressed by the massive Vault 13 Mod when it drops its demo in mid-2024 though It seems like the project is no longer happening. A huge mod that aims to recreate the entirety of the original Fallout in Fallout 4s engine, Vault 13 was an incredible feat by a group of talented fans who clearly have a great passion for the franchise. Unfortunately, this love is not enough to allow the team to continue, because they have acknowledged that development on the mod must stop.

Per PC gamer, Fallout: Vault 13 Co-lead culinwino shared a message to the mod’s Discord community confirming that development on the game is coming to an end due to several significant reasons. Kulinwino notes that The team was plagued by a lack of experienced contributors, clashing schedules and major burnout problemsPrompting the decision to pack it in before the problems became too serious. The Vault 13 Developers have released their current build of the mod in its entirety so those interested in seeing what might have been can check it out.

The end of Vault 13 is sad but it is for the best

Taking care of your health is very important

Vault 13 was an ambitious project, one that would have been difficult to accomplish even if the team had the necessary resources to bring it to life. Fans may be disappointed that the mod will never be finished however At the end of the day, those who produce it need to take care of themselves. It can be a huge success, but when the price can be the mental health, it is better to prioritize and focus on the things that really matter.

At the very least, players can still enjoy the current build of the mod which is an incredible proof of concept for how a Fallout 1 Remake may look. Bethesda has already stated that it has no intention of going back to the original title and modernizing it So Vault 13 is seemingly the closest the community will get to seeing a full reimagining. At the very least, the fact that culinwino has left the door open for a different group of modders to take over is encouraging, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.

But not one that costs a team of modders their sanity

T-51 armor set in the original Fallout game from 1997.

The original Fallout is a fantastic game that deserves all the recognition it has earned; Unfortunately, it is also poorly aged and can be difficult for newcomers to understand. I think Bethesda would have a definite hit on its hands if it remakes the first title in the style of Fallout 4So it’s strange that such a project seems to have to be completed by modders. My heart goes out to you Vault 13 TeamAnd as disappointing as it is to see the mod come to an end, I fully support their decision to step away.
