Marvel’s Master Blood retcon isn’t unprecedented, but there is one big difference here
Marvel just confirmed the return of Lord Blood as its next symbiote villain
This isn’t the first time Marvel has pulled the trick of completely ‘removing’ a character from official continuity. in 2006 She-Halk vol. 2 #3 (by Dan Slott and a slew of artists), the villain Clockwise attacks the Time Variance Authority during She-Hulk’s trial. Clockwise steals a gun that can remove people from the timeline, gunning down ‘Night Man’ and ‘Dr. Rocket, ‘only for Marvel’s heroes to forget they ever existed seconds after they disappear. Likewise, the Sentry’s ‘return’ to Marvel Comics used the logic that he was a classic Marvel character who had faded from the memory of everyone on Earth, including Marvel’s longtime readers. However, what is unique about Master Blood’s case is that while readers See He was removed from the timeline, it is likely that he will return.
‘What happened to Master Blood?’ See Lord Blood (very briefly) become the first person to ally with Venom. The symbiote species are all connected to a metaphysical realm called the Hive, with a history of storing the genetic imprints of those they associate with. This makes resurrection possible, even for people whose bodies are destroyed. Fans saw just that with Flash Thompson’s agent Anti-Venom, with the hero returning to life after accessing through the symbiote hive, using symbiote matter to build himself a new body.

Of course, Lord Blood wasn’t just killed – he was removed from the timeline – but, that’s not the barrier it might seem. Symbiotes have a unique relationship with time, with their leader the King in Black able to project his mind into any symbiote matter that exists at any given time. Because of this, It is possible that master blood is still stored somewhere in the hive, eventually to be rediscovered and returned. This is particularly likely because Al Ewing, the writer of this short story, is currently also the writer on PoisonAnd made Kong the Conqueror an unlikely player in the fate of the symbiote species.
