The possibility of Kreese crossing a line from which he cannot return grew stronger in Cobra Kai. Despite being the most prominent villain in The Karate Kid films as well as their sequels, there is a lingering realization that John Kreese is not without hope of redemption. His affection for Johnny Lawrence, among other things, proved that there is humanity in Martin Kove’s character. That’s why there’s a feeling that maybe Johnny can change him. However, it’s possible that Johnny is the reason Kreese becomes irredeemable.
In short, Kreese seemed to be on a better path. He stopped Terry Silver from forcing Tory to cheat in the All Valley Tournament and encouraged her to pull out of the Cobra Kai fight. But since then, Kreese has returned to his old ways. The influence he is having on Kwon and his apparent role as the main villain of Cobra Kai season 6 reduces Kreese’s chances of seeking redemption. Complicating matters further is a provocation from Cobra Kai Trailer for Season 6, Part 2 that suggests someone – possibly Kreese – is taking the war with Miyagio-Do to the next level.
Could Kreese try to kill Johnny in Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2?
The trailer may hint at a death in the final season of Cobra Kai
Towards the end of the trailer, someone can be seen shaking a knife. The weapon can be clearly identified as the blade that Kreese found in the cave after passing a test given to him by Kim Sun Yung. The obvious implication here is that Kreese is prepared to use the knife he acquired. As for who he’d like to use, Daniel LaRusso seems like a plausible option, but Cobra Kai’s previous setup points the finger at Johnny. After all, one should not forget that figuratively killing Johnny was how he obtained the gun in the first place.
In Season 4, Terry Silver exposed Johnny as the “weakness.” Having this knowledge led him to overcome a hallucination of Johnny and kill him, thus proving that Kreese had finally freed himself from his “weakness.“The fact that the knife is a reward for this could serve as a foreshadowing of how it will be used. If it’s true that Kreese no longer has an emotional connection to Johnny, then it’s possible that a heated conflict could push him that far. As he says in the trailer, he has “nothing to lose” now. The knife shot signals that Kreese’s limits are about to be tested.
Kwon Could Also Explain Cobra Kai’s Knife Tease
Kwon has already proven his capacity for violence
An alternative interpretation of the knife taunt is that it is a misdirection; theoretically, it could end up in someone else’s hands, like Kwon. The brutality that was previously demonstrated in Cobra Kai demonstrates that he is the most dangerous enemy any of the teenage characters have ever faced. Given his recklessness, it’s not hard to imagine a scenario in which Kwon – tempted by Kreese’s negative influence – becomes angry enough to take his mentor’s knife to one of his new rivals. The series actually killing off a main character seems unlikely, but one of its villains making the attempt isn’t unfeasible.
Set decades after the events of the Karate Kid franchise, Cobra Kai changes direction and puts viewers in the perspective of a former rival/antagonist, Johnny Lawrence. In his 50s and down on his luck, a chance encounter with a bullied young man leads Johnny back to Karate. Agreeing to help him, Johnny takes the opportunity to revive his old home, the Cobra Kai dojo – becoming a haven for outcast teenagers.
