The grange exhibition contest score is perhaps one of the Valley of the Starsof the most enduring mysteries. While it is possible, with a little experimentation, to memorize the secret passage through the Spirits Eve maze, discover all the hiding places at the Egg Festival, or determine what the governor likes best in his luau soup, the right variety of items for a winner the grange display remains obtuse and obscure, year after year.
If this is a player’s first appearance at the Stardew Valley fair, here’s what will happen: On Tuesday, Fall 16th, the entire town will gather in the main square between 9am and 3pm. There will be tourists to chat with, carnival games to play, and most importantly, a series of displays containing all sorts of salable goods. Fruits, vegetables, fish, cheeses, eggs, textiles and miscellaneous. There is also an empty screen. The farmer’s job is fill it with the cream of your harvest, but the appearance may be different for each individual.
How to build the perfect Grange display
Take home the prize at Stardew Valley Fair
Grange displays are evaluated in three different categories: quantity, quality and varietywith different numbers of points awarded for different degrees of success in each category. However, the player cannot actually see how many points their farm display will receive until after the trial. There is probably a Valley of the Stars mod for this, but that would be cheating.
Let’s start with quantity, as it is the easiest to explain: the more items in a large view, the higher the score. Ideally, players always want to fill all nine available slots, even if they have to sacrifice quality or variety to do so. If necessary, players can even fill them with non-scoring items like junk, but in general, it’s a better idea to add something usable, even if it’s low-quality fodder that only scores a few points.
Then there is quality: an item’s selling price and star quality directly affect how many points it adds to a large displaywith a maximum of eight points per item. As a result, it’s best to add the highest quality and most valuable items possible. Some easy recommendations for high stitch counts include Milk
Amaranth, Cauliflower and Pumpkin, as well as any type of wine, tree fruit, deep-sea fish or cave mushroom. Remember, higher quality is always better here – Iridium is ideal, but Gold and Silver will do if necessary. The table below describes the intersection between quality and points.

Keep in mind that any perks that change the selling price of certain items will also affect their score in a large display. For example, if the player has the Farmhand skill in Valley of the Starsmost of the vegetables they put on the farm display will have a higher score; the same goes for the Fisherman skill and fish, or the Artisan skill and any Crafted Goods.
Finally, there is variety: a grange exhibit is also judged based on the diversity of items included in it. There are eight categories to choose from and each category represented gives the player five points:
- Animal products
- Handcrafted products
- Cooking
- Fish
- Flowers and forage
- Fruit
- Minerals
- Vegetables
Now, with nine slots, a nine-point bonus for filling them, a maximum of eight points per item, and a thirty-point bonus for having six or more categories represented, the maximum possible score for a grange display is 125. In however, players will only need to score 90 points to win the Grange competition at the Stardew Valley fairand this is easily achievable with just a few high-quality items. If the player fills all nine slots and covers at least six categories, they will only need eight items worth four points each and one item worth five points to take home the prize.
An easy, winning display that almost any player should be able to create, even as a freshman, could include the following:
-
Any Cheese
-
Silver quality
Amaranth -
Silver quality
Sunflower -
Chanterelle
-
Melon
-
Emerald, Ruby, Fairy Stone, Opal, Fluorapatite or Jade
-
Quality silver salmon or largemouth bass
-
Mead or Pale Ale
-
Jam (wild plum, strawberry, peach, orange, melon or grape) or wine (apple, blackberry, cherry, crystal fruit or cranberry)
But remember, There’s a lot of flexibility here. If the player does not have access to one of the items listed above, but has an extra for another, they can almost certainly exchange it, especially if it is of higher quality.
Stardew Valley Fair Rewards
Star Tokens and how to spend them
For winning the grange exhibition competition, players receive 1,000 Star Tokensa unique currency that can only be spent during the Stardew Valley fair. Pierre’s booth always stocks five specific items, but will also have a handful of random sundries pulled from a small pool.
For a (more or less) easy win, players can also put on Mayor Lewis’ shorts in the chicken farm display. He will bribe them with 750 Star Tokens to keep his secret, and the shorts can be taken home and reused in next year’s screening.
Anyway, The most important item available for purchase is the Stardrop
. Once the player purchases it, they will immediately eat it, giving them a permanent upgrade to their maximum energy. However, it costs 2,000 Star Tokens, so players will need to participate in some additional minigames to be able to afford it. The best way to do this is to bet just under half of the player’s total Star Tokens on the green of the spinning wheel. Green appears much more frequently, so doing this repeatedly can net players more than enough Tokens in a short period of time.
Additionally, for collectors, Rarecrow #1 is also sold at the fair for 800 Star Tokens. The other permanent items – dried sunflowers in vases, a Fedora, and a light green rug – are exclusive to the fair, but can be saved for later years unless the player really wants them. The random items, which can include Triple Shot Espresso, Pepper Poppers, a Glowstone Ring, 100 Hay, and 24 Mixed Seeds, are in no way necessary. But if the player has leftover Star Tokens, it is better to spend them on absolutely anything, such as Star Tokens cannot be saved or spent after the fair.
Getting the grange display right can be intimidating, but with a little preparation, it’s not too difficult. With a Stardrop at stake, the Autumn Fair is one of the most rewarding seasonal events in Valley of the Starsand it’s worth the effort – at least until the player can purchase unique items in his store.
