How Marvel Comics answers the mystery of Wiccan’s return
The MCU changed Wiccan’s Marvel Comics history
Agatha all along Explanation of Billy Maximoff’s return found the perfect way to adapt his slightly more complicated Marvel Comics origin story. Billy and Tommy Maximoff first appeared in Marvel Comics’ The Vision and the Scarlet Witch #12 in 1986. Just as in WandaVisionThe twins were made with the Scarlet Witch’s reality-warping powers, though they were later revealed to be forged from fragmented pieces of the soul of the demonic villain Mephisto. Mephisto reabsorbed the twins, ending their lives, and leading to a world of pain for the Scarlet Witch.
Through their mother’s love and sheer power, Billy and Tommy’s souls were not fully reabsorbed by Mephisto, and instead returned years later in the 2005s Young Avengers series like Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd. The reincarnations, despite being raised by new parents, were actually brothers and the children of the Scarlet Witch, and were formidable young Avengers as Wiccan and Speed, respectively. Agatha all along Dramatically changed the story and still kept it fairly faithful, providing a believable and understandable new beginning for Billy Maximoff’s Wiccan.
