Depp’s Jack Sparrow is an iconic feature of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but it’s currently unclear whether this character will return. While the best-case scenario would be, at the very least, a cameo, there are many indications that Johnny Depp alone won’t be enough to secure Pirates of the Caribbean 6is success.

THE Pirates of the Caribbean the franchise has been on hold for nearly a decade, with the fifth installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Talesbeing released in 2017. Since then, Disney has faced significant controversy. Depp was fired from his role due to the ongoing legal conflict with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, and even after things calmed down, the actor said he would not return for any amount of money. However, from Disney Pirates of the Caribbean the problems started long before there was any doubt about Depp’s involvement with the franchise.

Pirates of the Caribbean sequels never caught up to the original

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl it was a surprising success. Pirates of the Caribbean’s downward trend is a problem whether Johnny Depp returns or not

Johnny Depp is not enough to save the franchise

Looking at the trend that started with Pirates of the CaribbeanIn the first sequel, it’s clear that Disney is facing a problem with this franchise, regardless of whether Johnny Depp returns or not. After all, the actor has been a constant presence throughout the franchise, but reception has waned nonetheless. As beloved as Jack Sparrow and his quirky antics are, this character alone has proven that it’s not enough to bring audiences back to theaters or win critical approval.

Yet another sequel that falls short would essentially be the final nail in the coffin for this franchise, especially after all these years.

Therefore, as Disney continues to prepare for Pirates of the Caribbean 6will have to find a way – other than Depp’s buy-in – to limit the financial risk. Yet another sequel that falls short would essentially be the final nail in the coffin for this franchise, especially after all these years. Pirates of the Caribbean 6 can’t just be better than Dead men tell no stories. If there is any hope of revitalizing this series, Disney’s next film must surpass all four Curse of the Black Pearlsequences.

What Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Can Do To Beat The 4 Previous Sequels

Disney needs to go back to the original formula

Jack Sparrow looks surprised in Pirates of the Caribbean

Although Depp’s return was not Pirates of the Caribbean 6 a right choice, it can’t be denied that Jack Sparrow has some weight. It’s no wonder Disney changed its mind about Depp, neither confirming nor denying that he could be in the next film. Depp’s appearance, whether as a main character or a cameo, would undoubtedly draw audiences back to theaters thanks to the nostalgia factor of his role. However, Dead Man’s Chest has already proven that good theatrical participation is not enough – Disney must do Pirates of the Caribbean 6 a good film comparable to Curse of the Black Pearl.

Nostalgia is certainly key here. Cinema has come a long way since Curse of the Black Pearlbut the film’s almost simplistic eccentricity went far beyond the over-the-top CGI of Dead men tell no stories. It’s important that Disney uses this film as a sort of homage to the original 2003 film it set the bar so high, leaning into everything that made it an exciting and fun guilty pleasure. Of course, a great cast is also important, including Depp, Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley or not. It will be an uphill battle, but it’s exciting to see what Disney comes up with Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
