Aaron Davis, Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

The first solo entry into the MCU’s Spider-Man movie timeline came in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecomingexpanding the hero’s brief role in Captain America: Civil War. The film saw Tom Holland’s Spider-Man encounter many enemies, but one of the film’s more subtle additions was that of Aaron Davis, better known as the villain Prowler, who is also the uncle of Peter Parker’s successor, Miles Morales. However, a deleted scene from the film almost confirmed much more about the villain’s history in the MCU.

The deleted scene included an extended version of a scene in which Spider-Man apprehends and interrogates Davis. After becoming trapped in his car by Spider-Man’s webs, Davis is shown making a call to his nephew Miles, whom he says is “I won’t make it”. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

A deleted scene from Iron ManThe ending of Captures this idea perfectly.

After fighting Obadiah Stane, Stark sees him falling into the unstable Arc Reactor and catches him, temporarily saving his life. He immediately tells Stane not to mistake his gesture for kindness, clearly demonstrating his heroic streak and strong moral fiber despite his personal feelings towards the villain. The quote is an excellent marker of where Stark is on his hero’s journey at that point.although it was unfortunately excluded from the final film.

“Now give us a kiss.”

Loki, Thor (2011)

Since Thor’s story in the MCU literally begins with a huge defining moment, it’s perhaps not surprising that a brief scene leading up to it was cut from the final film. 2011 Thor begins with the supposed coronation of the God of Thunder, although it ultimately doesn’t go according to plan. A deleted scene set moments before the coronation introduced Thor and Loki in an incredibly different light, with the two sharing some banter and a tender brotherly moment before the ceremony.

After admitting to Thor that he is proud of his brother, Loki publicizes the serious moment by adding: “Now give us a kiss. The quote captures Loki’s sense of fun and mischief, but also his vulnerability, using comedy to diffuse the tension of the moment. The scene and quote add excellent depth to Thor and Loki’s relationshipIt’s a shame it was cut from the film.

“I have to buy one of these for myself.”

Bucky Barnes, Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Captain America: Civil War has proven to be one of the most important films in the MCU, as its narrative has had huge ramifications for many individual characters and the franchise as a whole. Its iconic airport showdown between Team Cap and Team Iron Man is one of the Infinity Saga’s most memorable moments, and it’s positively packed with memorable quotes. However, one particularly good line didn’t appear in the final film, as it was spoken in a brief deleted scene.

The scene shows Bucky Barnes using Captain America’s shield during combat. When Cap arrives and retrieves it, Bucky simply comments, “I need to buy one of these. The phrase is apparently a reference to the fact that Bucky is Steve Rogers’ successor in the Captain America mantle in the comics.while also exploring the pair’s friendship and better establishing Bucky’s human side.

2

“You complete me.”

Tony Stark, Iron Man 2 (2010)

Iron Man 2The alternate opening only added a little to the film, but its implications were potentially huge. In addition to creating a more complete adaptation of the Demon in a Bottle story from the comics, there was also an exchange between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts before Iron Man’s impressive entrance at Stark Expo. Although the scene was cut, it featured an excellent quote from Tony Stark.

Upon persuading Tony to jump out of the plane, Pepper kisses his mask and throws it away. Immediately before diving, Tony says to Pepper: “you complete me.Using a pop culture reference in such an offhand way seems incredibly fitting for Stark’s characteras well as serving as a witty response to Pepper throwing off her mask. It’s a memorable moment that unfortunately didn’t make the final cut.

“It’s been a long time since I felt a light on anything.”

Bruce Banner, The Incredible Hulk (2008)

The Incredible Hulk is often considered one of the MCU’s weakest entries, but it features moments of brilliance that are noteworthy. Interestingly, one of these moments occurs during a deleted scene where Bruce Banner sits down to eat with Betty Ross and Leonard Samson. The three are happily sharing stories when Bruce suddenly begins sobbing uncontrollably, unexpectedly changing the entire tone of the scene.

Bruce Banner, by Edward Norton, then explains through tears that it is “It had been a long time since he felt any light on anything.”The sudden emotional reaction to an innocent story suddenly makes sense, and Norton’s line is simply moving. As such, it is perhaps the best quote that was lost in the deleted scenes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
