Justin Chambers’ Karev Return Comments Are Good for Jo’s Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Story

Karev being an original Grey’s Anatomy
character makes her potential return more sought after than others, but Justin Chambers’ comments against such a return, 4 years after Karev’s departure, paint a better picture for Jo’s future. Remaining chambers Grey’s Anatomy as the show was in its 16th season, and although his character did not have a tragic ending, Alex Karev’s departure nevertheless was one of the Grey’s Anatomyis the most controversial. Between his last appearance via voiceover and the fact that he left those he considered family at Gray Sloan when he said goodbye via letter, Karev’s departure didn’t reflect the character’s steps forward.

Over the 16 Grey’s Anatomy In the seasons that Karev was a part of, he went through some of the most radical character development, going from someone who was selfish, sometimes unfair, and distant from his peers, to being Meredith’s person when Cristina moved to Switzerland and someone who generally cared about others. Karev leaving Jo without even telling her in person felt totally out of character based on who he had becomeeven though the move reunited him with Izzie and her secret children. In light of the departure, Chambers’ opposition to returning to the Grey’s Anatomy means good news for Jo and Meredith.

Justin Chambers rules out returning as Karev on Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon

Chambers has played several different roles since leaving Grey’s Anatomy behind

Justin Chambers as Alex Karev on Grey's Anatomy

Lots of key Grey’s Anatomy characters have returned in recent years, well after their departure from the series. From Addison’s storyline on reproductive health care in Grey’s Anatomy From seasons 18 and 19 to Arizona’s brief cameo in season 20 and Jackson’s recurring appearances in seasons 19 and 21, the reappearance of major characters in the medical drama has become more frequent. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case for Alex Karev, as Justin Chambers ruled out an imminent Grey’s Anatomy return, calling the chapter “closed for now, despite reiterating how grateful he was for the opportunity in the medical drama.

Chambers’ refusal to return soon to Grey’s Anatomy it supposedly has to do with the same reason he left the medical drama. In fact, Chambers left the show because she wanted to explore different roles and characters and leaving Grey’s Anatomy gave him that chance. While Chambers does not rule out a possible return in the futurehis focus remains far from playing Alex Karev again, and the completely opposite role he plays Accused demonstrates the success he achieved in diversifying his career. Returning as soon as Karev enters Grey’s Anatomy would go against the reported objective.

Karev’s return would be bad for the story of Jo’s Grey’s Anatomy season 21

Jo has finally gotten over her betrayal and is happy

Karev does not return Grey’s Anatomy season 21 is good news for Jo and potentially even Meredith. Alex’s departure from Seattle was intriguing, painful and unexpectedand was seen as such by Jo and Meredith. With Alex being one of the few still at Gray Sloan besides Meredith’s mentors and friends Miranda Bailey and Richard Webber, her sudden departure can feel like a betrayal, especially for someone like Meredith who has lost her fair share of loved ones unexpectedly. Returning to Grey’s Anatomy season 21 would add even more to Meredith’s plate, which is full between Catherine and her research.

However, the character most negatively affected by Alex’s return would be Jo Wilson. In fact, it had been difficult for Jo to trust anyone, and her and Alex’s wedding only took place in Grey’s Anatomy season 14 finale. The way Alex left her enraged and broken, and It took a long time for Jo to get over Alex’s betrayal. Returning to Gray Sloan Memorial in Grey’s Anatomy season 21 would have the worst possible moment for Jo, who is finally happy and hopeful with Link, as she could relive one of the saddest heartbreaks that Jo has had to move on from.

Does Grey’s Anatomy still need Karev to return?

The return of other original Grey’s Anatomy characters would work better

Considering how far Grey’s Anatomy arrived, any return of an original character would bring joy to the audience. However, Alex’s return is the one that would make the least sense in Grey’s Anatomy season 21. Between the terrible way he left Jo, Meredith and the hospital and the reasons he had to do it – moving in with Izzie after finding love again and his children – Alex’s return could risk making his departure even worse, as it would be even harder to justify.

Even Izzie’s return would work better, as it could provide an intriguing reunion with Meredith, Miranda and Richard.

The return of any other original key Grey’s Anatomy character would be more functional for the story. With Meredith still in the eye of the storm with her groundbreaking research, Cristina’s return wouldn’t be out of place. Even Izzie’s return would work better despite her longer absence from Gray Sloan, as it could provide an intriguing reunion with Meredith, Miranda, and Richard. Although Alex’s return could be counterproductive Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 could run later, thus making Chambers’ openness to returning eventually good news for the future of the medical drama.
