The hilarious and shocking anti-superhero series The boys is returning for its fifth and final season on Amazon Prime Video, and there is already a lot of news about the show’s latest premiere. A critical darling since its debut episode, The boys has become a pop culture phenomenon and inspired a wave of shows and films based on comics beyond DC and Marvel. The show’s true power lies in its ability to shock and surprise, and The boys has continually kept fans on their toes as the stories get stranger and weirder with each passing season. However, all good things must come to an end, and with the announcement of season 5 also came the revelation that the hit Amazon Prime Video series would be ending.

The Boys Season 5 Cast

Who survived season 5?

Since the 5th season of The boys is officially the last one, it stands to reason that the final outing will give many of the beloved and despised characters a fitting send-off. Despite the show’s penchant for bloodshed there are a few characters likely to meet their end, including Antony Starr’s super-patriotic Homelander and Karl Urban as anti-superhero vigilante Billy Butcher. The cast of The boys also features a wide variety of other superpowered characters, and the final season could introduce a few more as well.

One major character who didn’t survive the fourth season was Vice President-elect Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), who died a horrific death at the hands of Butcher’s alter ego in the season finale, and likely won’t return. Speaking of Joe Kessler (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the actor mentioned that he hopes to return for the final outing. A confirmed return is that of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boywho will be a major recurring character in season 5.

Snowpiercer star Daveed Diggs has been cast in an as-yet-unnamed recurring role, and he’s the first of several new names set to appear in the upcoming final season. Mason Dye was chosen to play the role of 1950s superhero Bombsight, who was mentioned in Season 4 as the star of films like “The Curse of Fu Manchu.” Dye’s Bombsight also has a chance to star in the prequel spinoff Vought rising.

The Boys Season 5 Story Details

A bloody climax is promised

Homelander and Ryan walk down the street in season 4 of The Boys

In typical The boys fashion, The season 4 finale was bloody, shocking, and utterly depraved, and it set up an intriguing climax to season 5. In a tragic turn of events, Victoria Neuman’s plan to attack Homelander was thwarted when she was killed by Butcher’s alter ego, and this allowed Homelander and Sister Sage’s evil plan to take its next step. With President Temporary Steven Calhoun in power, this allows Homelander to pull the strings and begin his reign of terror.

Homelander orders martial law, which begins his plan to arrest everyone he considers traitors.. The Boys are their main target and a violent clash is expected in the final season. One mystery hanging over the upcoming season is Sister Sage’s machinations, and even Homelander is being left in the dark about what her so-called Phase 2 entails. Viewers will have to wait The boys Season 5 to find out.
