The BBC series technically has its own Puritan ghost, a strict Protestant named Annie who dies in Button House after choking on a piece of bread, but Annie only exists in a flashback and is not part of the main cast. That said, many compelling similarities emerge between Mary and Patience.

Mary dies in 1612 during the infamous Pendle Witch Trials in England. and is burned at the stake in Ghosts United Kingdom after her village’s crops failed and two men in her community denounced her as a witch. Patience dies sometime after 1692 when the Salem Witch Trials are happening in America.
