When the prequel trilogy films were released, they were immediately met with harsh reactions and criticism. This was already true with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menacebefore Hayden Christensen joined Star Wars. The backlash was specifically directed at Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best and young Anakin Skywalker actor Jake Lloyd. The same things Christensen was criticized for made his performance perfecthowever. Anakin was designed to be easy to anger, selfish, and dramatic. These same characteristics were the factors that contributed to his fall to the dark side. Anakin was also supposed to be brave, passionate, and loyal. Christensen perfectly captured this complex nature of the character and continued to play him in a way that remains true to that complexity, including in both Obi Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.

Perhaps the most charming aspect of Hayden Christensen's portrayal of Anakin Skywalker has been the commitment he continues to have to both the character and the larger franchise. It would have been easy for Christensen to play the role in the prequel trilogy and then walk away, especially given the criticism he faced for his performance in the prequel trilogy. Instead of, Christensen has remained dedicated to his fan base, constantly attending conventions, participating in interviews, and of course, making new appearances on Star Wars show.
While Christensen's portrayal of Anakin/Vader may have been controversial at first, it's now impossible to imagine anyone playing the role (including Leonardo DiCaprio, who was almost cast). This isn't just about performance. It's also about the love Christensen has for his character, the franchise and the fans. Although this Star Wars video can be fun and humorous, it's a great reminder that Hayden Christensen is the perfect Anakin Skywalker.
