Spider-Man star Tom Holland reveals how Marvel Studios confirmed his casting publicly before calling him to inform him. More than eight years after his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil WarSpider-Man's journey in the MCU has been one of the busiest, as Tom Holland's Spidey has managed three solo films and three team-up appearances in less than a decade. Things aren't slowing down for Holland's Peter Parker, however, as Spider-Man 4 is gearing up for release before the end of the Multiverse Saga.
In an episode of Dish podcast, MCU Star Tom Holland Recalls How He Found Out He Was Cast as Spider-Man on a Website. According to Holland, he read that Marvel had officially announced he would be the MCU's Spider-Man six weeks after auditioning for the role, and then Marvel called him to inform him shortly after. Check out Holland's anecdote below:
“I discovered it on Instagram. Marvel posted a photo of Spider-Man and it said something like, 'Head to our website to find out who the next Spider-Man is.' Now at this point I'm waiting maybe six weeks to find out if I made it. And obviously at that point you say, 'I don't understand' why they would have called me. I would have a little respect.
And I went on their website and said, 'We're proud to announce that our next Spider-Man is Tom Holland' and I remember turning off my computer and just kind of sitting there. I called my agents. They heard the news. They didn't even know. And then the president of the studio called me and told me the news as if I didn't know (…) Didn't you think that an eighteen-year-old boy scouring the internet wouldn't find out?”
