Camilla continued to beg Dexter to sacrifice her and end her suffering, but her Code would not allow him to kill an innocent friend.
While Dexter continued to visit Camilla in the hospital throughout the Dexter in season three, they started to have more discussions about death and dying. One conversation that really affected Dexter had to do with Camilla stating that she had made peace with the idea of dying, but couldn't bear the pain. When Camilla was transferred to the hospice, she told Dexter that she hoped she didn't want to live much longer and that she wanted to die sooner or later. Possibly, Camilla told Dexter that death would be “a mercy”, and told him how her husband wanted her to sacrifice him.

Original Sin highlights that Camilla was the closest person Dexter had to a mother after the deaths of Laura and Doris
Camilla was an important parental figure in Dexter's education and adult life
Although Dexter's Dark Passenger has always made him want to kill and seek other people's blood, he has his limits. For example, young Dexter is severely affected by the damage suffered by Jimmy Powell in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 2, as he can't stand the idea of hurting children. Additionally, Dexter would never want to kill someone he loves and cares about deeply when it doesn't fit the Code. He had to kill Brian because he fit Harry's Code, but killing someone like Camilla, an innocent who loved him, was something he couldn't imagine doing.

Camilla's death tragically foreshadowed Dexter Mercy killing Deb at the end of the original show
Dexter gave Debra a similar mercy killing in the original series finale
Camilla's death was the first time Dexter committed a mercy killing for his loved ones throughout his murderous career – but it wouldn't be the last. When Dexter went to visit Camilla in Dexter In season three, Deb refused to join him because seeing sick people reminded her of her mother. When the two were talking about Camilla's pain as she died through a breathing tube in a hospital, Deb told Dexter that if she became like this, she would want him to euthanize her somehow.
Tragically, Deb foreshadowed her own death at this point, as she would end up in a coma after being shot by Oliver Saxon in Dexteroriginal series finale. When it became clear that Deb's chances of returning were almost non-existent Dexter reluctantly decided to grant his sister's earlier wish, just as he did with Camilla.. In the 2013 series finale, Dexter turns off Deb's life support and buries her at sea, making it one of his most tragic deaths alongside Camilla, long after his serial murder began in Dexter: Original Sin.
New episodes of Dexter: Original Sin the first season will be released on Fridays on Paramount+ with Showtime.
