Today's Connections Category Tips
DECEMBER 24 #562
Today's categories are an interesting mix, and some of them I would never get to without a little help myself. I was very close to one of them several times and I didn't know what the right final word was. There are many possible options in some of these categories and one of them is another one of those “so obvious it seems like it must be wrong” categories. To help you crack the puzzle, here are four tips:
- One category is about a famous slogan
- A category is about words you would use to describe a particular relationship
- A category is about words that sound like something smaller than a word
- A category has four words that can be multiplied into something famous
If these tips aren't enough for you to finish solving the puzzleThere is still more help available with this puzzle.

BEARS |
LIONS |
OH MY GOD |
TIGERS |
All of these words were, at least for me, lined up on the top row of the category. I was sure it was all a trick and that these four words and phrases couldn't belong in the same category because that would be ridiculous. However, while I was trying to form a sports team mascot categoryI learned that no, it wasn't too obvious, and sometimes I shouldn't try to make the puzzle too difficult for myself. Unfortunately, at least I didn't have to face a lion, a tiger or a bear.

TIGHT |
This one seemed simple enough to me. Nothing else really had the same meaning that was being sought in this categoryso it seemed easier to build it. The one thing that caught my eye that could go elsewhere was TIGHT, as I thought there might be a category for things people could say with words like BYE, GIMME, or OH MY. This ended up not being the case at first, so I had no problems when I got to this category.

Alternatively, this category was a big problem for me. It was a category that didn't make sense and all the solutions I thought were wrong. I had BEES, EASE, and USE together for several guesses, making it annoying to keep seeing “one away” as I fought. However, I would never have put JAYS here, I don't think, even if I had more guesses. It didn't help that I had no idea what the next category would be, and I don't think I would have gotten that one either.

I love music, but I don't generally follow pop music. Even the artists I really like I don't follow as much as I should because I have a bad habit of just listening to my favorite songs on repeat instead of listening to something new. That being said, BYE is the only one I probably would have recognized, and just because this was played at every school dance as a way of telling us to get out. Please don't hate me for not listening to what are apparently the most popular hits.
