Guy Ritchie's latest film, the heist adventure Fountain of Youthfeels like a spiritual successor to the Indiana Jones franchise, and it's actually a better alternative than a potential sixth installment in the Harrison Ford franchise. Fountain of Youth represents a bit of a departure from the norm for Ritchie, who typically deals in gangster comedies and spy thrillers. Guy Ritchie's next film will be an action-adventure film for the whole family, very much in line with National Treasury or The mummy franchises and will star Hollywood stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman.
While details are somewhat limited, one feature in Weekly entertainment revealed some information about the overall plot. In Fountian of Youth, Krasinski and Portman will play siblings Luke and Charlotte Purdue as they travel the world in search of the legendary fountain that grants eternal life to whoever drinks from it. Ritchie's adventure film definitely includes some echoes of previous adventure franchises, as the Purdues have an archaeological background that drives their global enterprise. This will no doubt invite comparisons to Indiana Jones and based on first impressions Fountain of Youth could be a worthy successor.
Fountain of Youth looks like a worthy replacement for Indiana Jones
Adventure film Heist looks like it will hit many of the same notes
In the first place, Fountain of Youth it seems like it will encapsulate the global spirit of the best Indiana Jones adventures. The film's action will take place in very different locations; Ritchie mentioned filming in Egypt, Vienna and Bangkok, among other locations. Although the hunt for a mythological object is out of the ordinary Indiana Jones manual, it's that ever-changing, action-packed narrative that really makes Fountain of Youth a true spiritual successor to the famous franchise. He even shares Indiana Jones' familiar tone, for starters.
In addition to the elements it will share with the Indiana Jones films, Fountain of Youth looks like a worthy successor given the level of talent behind the film. Guy Ritchie has directed box office and critical hits during his career, many of which fit the action-adventure mold of Fountain of Youth. The live-action adaptation of Aladdin and the Sherlock Holmes Movies starring Robert Downey Jr. are perfect examples of how well his talents will translate into this particular story, especially if he's armed with the talents of Oscar winner Portman and SAG Award winner Krasinski.
Indiana Jones and The Dial Of Destiny make the future of the franchise more difficult
Box office returns make a new installment unlikely
Fountain of Youth will be a necessary replacement for the Indiana Jones franchise, as it seems likely that the franchise is all but finished. Not only does Harrison Ford's advanced age make it difficult to continue the iconic character's overarching narrative, the last installment was an absolute disaster for Disney. With a sky-high budget of nearly $300 million (as reported by Disney), the film needed to gross around $600 million to break even after marketing costs were added. It grossed just $384 million worldwide, making it one of the biggest flops of all time for Disney.

Although criticism for Destiny Display they were on the better side of average, it wasn't an excellent film that simply lost its audience in the theater. The franchise seems well and truly poised without Harrison Ford in the mix, and a legacy sequel or spin-off seems like it could only further damage the franchise's legacy and the character Indiana Jones himself. Fountain of Youth It could be the next big family action-adventure movie, and if it's a success, there's certainly potential for the franchise.
