Captain Marvel and black cat They're not a duo you see often Wonder comics, but two cosplayers just proved that the publisher seriously needs to explore this unlikely team up more. By recreating a variant cover featuring Carol Danvers and Felicia Hardy, these two fans provided a dual live-action debut for these characters – one we didn't even know we needed.
Recreating this iconic variant cover is also the greatest compliment and homage to Carnero and Sánchez's original work…
Tair Hamou (@paper.moon.cosplay on Instagram) transforms into Spider-Man's iconic Black Cat, while Susie Creates (@susie_creates_cosplay on Instagram) takes on the mantle of Captain Marvel, the rising star of the Marvel Universe.
Together, these two creators brought to life an incredibly rare cosplay – not just because we rarely see these two characters together, but because they perfectly recreated the only Captain Marvel Variant cover #4 by Carmen Carnero and Alejandro Sánchez, down to the smallest details. This variant cover is iconic in its own right, but seeing it come to life takes the epic to a whole new level.
Cosplayers Unite to Recreate Captain Marvel and Black Cat's Epic Variant Cover
1:25 Variant cover by Carmen Carnero and Alejandro Sánchez for Captain Marvel #4 (2024)
Staying true to Carnero and Sánchez's variant cover, Hamou's Black Cat is depicted in her classic black and white fur-lined jumpsuit, black eye mask, and signature white hair. She rests in a car, surrounded by bags of money, completely unfazed despite a disgruntled Captain Marvel staring at her through the open window. Each cosplayer's costume perfectly matches that worn by the characters on the variant cover. What makes this even more impressive is the attention to detail – Hamou and Creates replicated the exact poses, with Creates even recreating Captain Marvel's specific hairstyle on the cover.
While any Captain Marvel and Black Cat cosplay would have been a delight, there's something particularly endearing about these cosplayers going out of their way to recreate a Marvel-licensed work of art. In doing so, Hamou and Creates demonstrated their deep appreciation for the source material of the characters they portray. The recreation of the variant cover is also the greatest compliment and tribute to the work of Carnero and Sánchezshowing how visually impactful his art has been. It's especially awesome that cosplayers tagged Carnero in their post, ensuring that creators will see their art come to life.
Digital artist deserves big applause for elevating Black Cat and Captain Marvel cosplay
Wens Universe is a digital artist on Instagram known for his work in cosplay and poster design
While Hamou and Creates are undeniably a big reason why this cosplay is so amazing, a lot of the credit also goes to digital artist Wens Universe (@wens.1998 on Instagram), who recreated the background and props that make this cosplay a hyper-faithful homage to Carnero and Sánchez's variant cover. Wens' art brought to life the vibrant cityscape in the background, as well as the bags of money surrounding Hamou's Black Cat. Without Wens' experience, these key elements would be missing. Therefore, this Captain Marvel and black cat cosplay is truly a huge group effort, coupled with the quality and details that make it stand out.
