10 characters we want to see in The Witcher 4

With The Witcher 4 being officially revealed at The Game Awards 2024 and Ciri being confirmed as the protagonist, it's time to take into consideration who else could appear in the game. This not only means that players will have another chance to explore an expansive world and slay monsters, but also that they will be able to encounter familiar faces from previous games in the series. The question is who might have a role to play in Ciri's new journey.

The Witcher 4 is ready to be bigger than The Witcher 3and has a wealth of content including games, books and TV series. However, the trailer also shows that it will include elements that have yet to appear, such as Ciri's more robust magical abilities, which go beyond what Witchers can normally do. It seems there are some mysteries that need to be answered in The Witcher 4.

Emhyr may come after Ciri again

A royal hunt

The Witcher Emhyr meets Geralt on his royal ship

Depending on choices made in previous games, Emhyr can be deposed or remain emperor of Nilfgaard. If the canon storyline has Emhyr continue in his role as emperor, this could lead to some adversity during the game, as Ciri is his biological daughter. One of his goals previously was to bring her to Nilfgaard as his successor, which happens at the end of Empress of The Witcher 3.

Ciri traveling as a witch means she can be noticed by Nilfgaard, revealing to Emhyr that she is alive.

Since it appears the Witcher ending is the canon route for Ciri, that means Geralt would have told Emhyr that Ciri died sacrificing himself to White Frost to save the world. Ciri traveling as a witch means she can be noticed by Nilfgaard, revealing to Emhyr that she is alive. In that case, he could try to have her become his successor once again.

Avallac'h could be Ciri's mentor again

A twist of fate

Avallac'h in the Witcher video games

Avallac'h is a mysterious character who helped Ciri learn about her powers. He also jumped from dimension to dimension with her. This gave him the role of mentor and friend to Ciriand made him one of the few people who could relate to the fact that she had the ability to move through dimensions. She makes it clear to Geralt that not only does she trust Avallac'h, but that he has saved her life more than once.

Avallac'h used some of his remaining strength to provide Geralt Ciri's location, but his ultimate fate remained a mystery. While it is possible that Avallac'h is dead, he can still appear in flashbacksince it was Ciri who spent a lot of time with him. Since he's an important figure in her life, it wouldn't be unusual for him to reappear in the flesh, in a flashback, or in name only.

The An Craite brothers could be welcome allies

Guardians of the North

Cerys an Craite being crowned Queen of Skellige in The Witcher 3.

Cerys and her brother, Hjalmar, are options for the next king or queen of Skellige. Both characters are strong in their own right, and either of them would make a good ruler for Skellige. This means they would also make great allies alongside Ciri if fate takes her to the islands, or if Cerys or Hjalmar cross paths with her on their own journeys beyond familiar shores.

Wizards are strong and Ciri has abilities that go beyond what an ordinary wizard is capable of, but That doesn't mean she won't need allies during her journey.. Additionally, Ciri doesn't necessarily just need to know people to fight her or provide information about a monster she's hunting. If she is in an area close enough to an acquaintance, it is possible for her to meet up with old friends without there being a fight in the near future.

Ciri needs her own cockroach

The Bard's Ballad

Witcher 3 Why Geralt's horse is called Roach Lore

Roach is an iconic mare in her own right and has the difficult task of transporting Geralt around the world, often in dangerous situations. Of course, there isn't just one Roach, as it's a running joke in the books and TV series that Geralt simply names every horse he owns Roach. The origin of Roach's name is also quite cute, showing that Geralt has a soft side, which is only reinforced by his role as Ciri's adoptive father.

Ciri may not necessarily name all of her horses Roach, but it's true that she could use a trusty steed during her journey as a Witch. While it's possible she honored Geralt by using the same name as him for her horse, she could come up with her own name. So, it's possible that your horse will also find a way to randomly climb onto rooftops.

Dandelion is Geralt's friend and can help Ciri

A bitter pill

The witchy dandelion

As a bard, Dandelion is known for his beauty and talent, but not for his combat skills. He is also Geralt's closest friendeven if Geralt isn't always enthusiastic about Dandelion's presence. So it wouldn't be a surprise for him to show up at some point during The Witcher 4even if he doesn't offer direct help in combat, as his strengths lie elsewhere.

He even has a tavern, where you can certainly receive a lot of information and gossip from regulars and travelers who are just passing through. Given her background and current job, Ciri could end up visiting Dandelion and consulting him about a hunt she doesn't think is right, or finding information to help her.

Fringilla has a complicated relationship with Ciri's father

A dangerous game

Yennefer with Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard in Witcher 3.

Fringilla is a very interesting character. She was a Nilfgaardian sorceress and went to the person who blinded Yennefer during the battle at Sodden Hill. Despite his service to the empire, she ended up arrested by Emhyrbecause she was part of the Sorceress' Lodge, and that was considered treason in her eyes. Before the trial, she was saved by Yennefer, who made a deal with Emhyr.

Due to its history, Fringilla could be used in a number of interesting ways if it appeared in The Witcher 4. It's possible she has some resentment towards Emhyr, and she could use Ciri to help her get revenge on them, even if it meant helping Ciri avoid Emhyr's clutches if he found out she's alive. Alternatively, she may be the most devoted of the Sorceress' Lodge, as she owes her life to Yennefer.

Philippa had plans for Ciri

The Heart of the Circle

The Witcher 3 Philippa Eilhart

A political figure to be reckoned with, Philippa decided to take on the task of renovating the Witches' Lodge, and she wanted Ciri to be at the center of this faction. Although Ciri has clearly decided to become a Witch, her magical abilities remain stronger than the average Witcher, and she has the Elder Blood in her veins. Philippa probably would have committed to Ciri if she wanted to be a witch, as long as it meant Ciri wouldn't cut ties with the Lodge.

Considering that Philippa had plans that involved Ciri, it would make perfect sense for her to appear in The Witcher 4. Even if she doesn't have an important or active role, she can still be a great resource for Ciri due to her political influence and power as a sorceress. No matter what, it seems like it would be difficult not to have the Lodge as a central part of the game, with Ciri taking the lead.

Triss is influential and friends with Ciri

A love lost and found

An image of Triss placing her hands on her hips with a blurred image of the city of Novigrad from The Witcher 3 behind her.

Triss is one of Geralt's love interests, but she is also an incredibly powerful sorceress. As part of the Lodge and a character who has a sisterly bond with Ciri, it makes sense for Triss to appear in The Witcher 4. However, it may not have an extensive role, depending on how involved the Lodge is with Cirior how much Ciri interacts with them regularly.

Because sorceresses tend to work closely with various rulers, they have a lot of political power.

As a member of the Lodge of Sorceresses, Triss could be involved in the game in a similar way to Philippa, where they play supporting roles as needed. While their magic is powerful, they both have other strengths that Ciri may need to borrow. Because sorceresses tend to work closely with various rulers, they have a lot of political power. Like Philippa, Triss's connections and knowledge of world politics could be more valuable to Ciri than magic.

Yennefer is expected to make an appearance

A father's duty

Yennefer of Vengerberg looks sad in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt 1

Yennefer is another sorceress who is part of the Lodge, but she is also Geralt's favorite love interest option. Furthermore, she acts as Ciri's adoptive motherwhich means her romance seems like the most likely canonical path, if The Witcher 4 decides to formalize a romance with Geralt. Even though she doesn't have a relationship with Geralt, she's still a parental figure to Ciri, and it would be strange not to see her return.

Among the sorceresses, Yennefer seems the most likely to not only appear, but possibly play a larger role in Ciri's journey. Her magical abilities make her a fearsome ally in battle.but like the other sorceresses, she also has a strong knowledge of politics. These features give her several strengths that can be crucial for a witcher, especially if Ciri has to deal with people who don't like witchers.

Geralt will definitely return

A father's duty

Keira Metz, Lambert and Geralt in Kaer Morhen

As Ciri's adoptive father, mentor, fellow Witcher and protagonist of previous games, it is already confirmed that Geralt will return in The Witcher 4. Of course, he will have a more subdued role and may only make an occasional appearance, but It could be a lot of fun to see him and Ciri working together on a huntnow that she is a full witch. After all, he guided her on the path to becoming one.

The trickiest part of Geralt's appearance would be deciding what choices he had to make in previous games is canonor include him in a way where the options he chose are irrelevant or not even mentioned. The most likely solution would be to make canon decisions for big choices, like Emhyr being emperor or his romantic choice, and then avoid smaller choices. Of course, there are many ways to handle choices from previous games, so it will be difficult to speculate on what CD Projekt Red will choose.

Between games, TV series and books, the world of The wizard it's huge and filled with enough knowledge that content can be created over and over again. Of course, it would be difficult to replace characters like Ciri and Geralt to create a prequel or move into the distant future with a sequel. However, Ciri's familiarity and character design are what help make the decision to place her at the center of The Witcher 4 much more exciting.
