Warning: SPOILERS for the ending of My Hero AcademiaDeku and Uraraka are one of the most iconic duos in the world My Hero Academy franchise. Not only are they incredible heroes who fought bravely to save Japan, but they are also loyal friends who are always there to protect each other. Although their relationship has not been confirmed as romantic, the series demonstrates that they have deeper feelings for each other.
Ochako even went so far as to admit that she had a crush on her green-haired friend. Deku may not have allowed himself to admit that he fell in love with Uraraka as the series progressed, but Your actions demonstrate your true feelings. A great example of this is the fact that the protagonist used his Quirk for the first and last time in the manga to save Uraraka from danger, regardless of the consequences.
One For All is used first and last by Deku to save Uraraka
He never doubts to save his best friend, no matter the cost
Chapter 4 of My Hero Academy The manga depicted Deku and dozens of other aspiring UA students fighting a horde of robots to gain a place on the prestigious Hero course. At this point in the series, Izuku received his Quirk just hours before the test, meaning he had no control over One For All. He had already been advised not to use the power unless necessary, as if he did , he would get seriously injured. Despite this, the moment he realized that Ochako needed help, he took the opportunity to save her.
This first instance of Deku utilizing his Quirk was mirrored during chapter 428 of the series, in which Ochako fled U.A. Uravity was in pain to learn that Toga died to save her during the fight, despite her efforts to reform the villain and give give you a new opportunity in life. Izuku, who only had a few embers of One For All left, used his abilities to find his best friend and bring her comfort in her time of need. This marks the last time readers see Deku use his Quirk in the series.
Izuku didn’t care about losing the few precious flames his Quirk had left before disappearing forever helping Uraraka. The events of chapter 428 are an incredible homage to the first time Midoriya used his Quirk, saving his best friend without hesitation. This being the last time One For All was present in the series makes this occurrence that much more special, as it meant that Izuku accepted that being a hero to his first friend was more important than retaining his powers for a little longer.
Horikoshi hinted at Deku’s true feelings for Ochako with this detail
Deku holds a special place in his heart for Uraraka
For many years, fans of Kohei Horikoshi My Hero Academy waited for Deku and Uraraka to confess their feelings for each other and become a couple. Unfortunately, this did not happen in the series, as there was never an official confirmation of these two incredible heroes beginning a romantic relationship. Even so, Uraraka stated that she had feelings for her friend, both in chapters 109 and 394. The one who never confirmed her thoughts about her best friend was Izuku, who was never portrayed seriously thinking about romance. Still, the creator strongly suggested that he return Uraraka’s affection many times over.
Few people are as important to Midoriya as Uravity, something that Japan’s savior is not afraid to show throughout the series. For starters, he allowed his best friend to give his derogatory childhood nickname, Deku, a more positive meaning, which he would later adapt into his hero name. Izuku went so far as to gift Uraraka an All Might merchandise, something he has never done for anyone else in the series. Most importantly, he never thought twice about helping Uravity, no matter what the consequences would be for him.
Using One For All despite knowing that his body would be seriously injured or that the Quirk would disappear sooner is a testament to his affection for Uraraka. Ochako is a person who inspired Deku to become better and who was by his side in his most difficult times. There’s almost no chance that Izuku wouldn’t feel something more than friendship for his brunette friend. The series may not have turned this iconic duo into a couple, but there’s more than enough evidence to suggest they’re in love with each other.
Using One For All as evidence about Deku’s growing feelings for Ochako was an incredible decision made by Horikoshi. Despite not seeing this beloved duo confessing to each other on My Hero Academy the manga may be disappointing, but it doesn’t make the story any less incredible and emotional. Fans can take comfort in the fact that the series indicates that the relationship between Deku and Uravity will blossom at some point in the future.
In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child he always wanted to be a hero. However, his quirklessness has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia revolves around Deku and a class of heroes in training at UA. This school turns young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off against dastardly supervillains.
