Before the release of the long-awaited Superman trailer, Wendell Pierce, who is set to play Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane's boss Perry White, shared a behind-the-scenes shot of himself in character. Superman also stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener/Green Lantern and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, among others. Perry's image, which Pierce shared with Xare early fans of the DCU iteration of the Daily Planet's editor-in-chief.
Pierce captioned the snap: “Here's a scoop! Superman trailer release in a few hours!”, teasing the character’s profession as a journalist. In the photo, the actor is smoking a cigar in front of a Daily Planet globe. He's sporting a classic Perry White look with sweater, vest and tie.
Little new information is provided from this preview of his character, but Pierce certainly looks like Superman's tough but fair boss, especially with a cigar in his hand. The first The thread the star joins a solid lineup of actors to play the role, with previous films casting Jackie Cooper, Frank Langella and Laurence Fishburne in the role.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first film from Warner Bros. rebooted DC Universe to focus on the comic book's titular hero. It presents a new version of the Man of Steel following Henry Cavill's departure from the role, honoring the character's roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
