THE Animal crossing The franchise has many beloved features, but fans are thrilled that one specific aspect never appeared Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The series is known for its cute characters and memorable animals. The game is also loved by many for being a relaxing and cozy island decorating experience. That said, there is one characteristic of older games that fans agree was more stressful than cozy.
Friend New Horizon players fully agree with the user Scorbunny_Earwho pointed out in a post that “I'm glad grass decay didn't return in New Horizons.” In Animal Crossing: city folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the grass had realistic mechanics that deteriorated it as more players passed through it. This meant that walking the same path often enough would result in worn, grassless dirt paths.
Grass decay hasn't made it to Animal Crossing New Horizons
The resource changed the aesthetics of the island
Scorbunny_Ear shared a screenshot of one of the previous Animal crossing games showing a completely barren island, with no grass and a worn-out appearance. The cute character with bunny hood and balloon shown standing on the brown ground looks out of place with his joy on the grassless island. The Redditor also mentions in his post that it was very difficult to get lost grass to grow back without using save editors or cheats.
Long-time Animal crossing players agree that the feature was “honestly, so stupid and useless,” how sumemodude put. They add this the feature was made even worse by the fact that residents could also damage the grass by walking over it, so players had no way to avoid deterioration, even if they followed carefully planned paths. Despite all his efforts, sumemodude was unable to get the grass to grow back completely, even three years later.
Our opinion: some things should remain in the past in Animal Crossing
Fans are happy to leave grass deterioration in the past
While grass deterioration is a small feature that doesn't seem to affect much in terms of gameplay, it has upset many fans. In a game that's all about decorating and designing your own space, it can be incredibly jarring to have so little control over such a fundamentally visual part of the area. Like many others in the comments, Redditor Dude789 are you happy that New Horizons left the resource in the past. “It was a bizarre experience,“they say.”A punishment for simply playing the game. I love City Folk and it holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite games, but the grass decay is just… bad.“
While most fans agree that the deteriorating element of the grass was a nuisance, some players actually enjoyed it. Several comments point out that the feature made the island appear more inhabited and allowed them to see the passage of time. User sleepdan333 has a great solution that I would also love to see in future games: “I would love to see nature paths be a toggle feature that each player could choose to use for themselves or not!“
New Horizons It's a fantastic game that I love, but I personally would love to see future games give players more power over how their islands look and behave. I hope future games take a page from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp page and let players choose everything from what the sky looks like to which residents get to live on the island. Until then, I'm glad the grass deterioration feature has been removed from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
