The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was recently confirmed for a third season, which makes the adaptation of a great JRR Tolkien story very likely. The first season premiered in 2022 to a mixed reception, but has since gained more respect. The Rings of Power Season 2 received positive reviews and many fans cited improvements. The series is known for portraying JRR Tolkien's Second Age stories with varying levels of fidelity, but one story from the third season appears to be quite faithful to the books.
The Rings of Power Season 3 will have to cover some storylines that Season 2 set up. This bodes well for the show's third season, which is starting to get into the more important parts of The Silmarillion. Rings of Power only has the right to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Ringsand is adapting tales from the Second Age of LOTR appendices. However, it is inclined towards The Silmarillion knowledge to flesh out the schedules outlined in the appendices. In that regard, season three should delve into a fan favorite Silmarillion bow.
Rings Of Power Season 3 Renewal Practically Confirms The Fall Of Númenor Is Happening
Rings of power will show the island's fall at some point
With Rings of Power showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay confirming for Screen speech that they are”preparing now, very, very intensely” for season 3, it looks like the Fall of Númenor will certainly be adapted soon. This story appears in “Akallabêth”, one of the last parts of the 1977 film The Silmarillionand covers Sauron's stay on the island as a prisoner of Ar-Pharazôn. Season 2 foreshadowed the Fall of Númenor when Pharazôn saw Sauron in the palantÃr. Now that Pharazôn has taken power, the next step, canonically, is to begin expanding his rule, which will ultimately involve Sauron's arrest.
The fall of Númenor could be one of LotR's biggest on-screen events if done correctly
The Lord of the Rings needs a Númenor adaptation
If The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power hit the Númenor bow, it will be one of the best Lord of the Rings moments in history. Despite the magnificent Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies, many of JRR Tolkien's best stories remain unadapted. The Silmarillion contains most of them, so THE Rings of Power has a great opportunity in its flexible Second Age concept, adapting Silmarillion stories that pass to LOTR appendices. The Fall of Númenor may be the most moving of these stories.
The Fall of Númenor is such a central part of LOTR which must be adapted at some point. Rings of Power has a special relationship with the Tolkien Estatewhich allows them unique rights to certain portions of the legendarium as needed. This may allow the use of details from “Akallabêth”, which could be one of the best LOTR adaptations ever. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will likely adapt the Fall of Númenor into Season 3 or 4, so fans should welcome this even if the series isn't renewed for Season 5.
