Virgin River Season 6 Just Connected a New Character to Hope and Vernon's Biggest Tragedy

Vernon and Hope had little going on Virgin River
Season 6, beyond their normal daily life and Mel and Jack's marriage, but one character who became more embedded in the fabric of Virgin River reminded them of a tragedy in their past. From Hope's heart attack and car accident to Vernon's degenerative eye condition, Vernon and Hope have had their fair share of problems throughout Virgin River. However, none of their issues was more emblematic than the difference of opinion on the issue of divorce in Virgin River Season 1, that Hope asked why Vernon betrayed her years before.

Virgin River Fortunately, season two reunited Hope and Vernon as a couple, despite the subterfuge involved when Hope didn't want the town to know about their return. While Virgin River season 6 marked a seemingly calm period for Hope and Vernon, Mel meeting her biological father, Everett, inexplicably angered Vernon. The reason why remained unknown for most of the season, until Everett and Vernon's heart-to-heart in Virgin River Season 6, Episode 8, which revealed why Vernon vehemently opposed Everett and how they were sadly linked to one of Virgin River's greatest tragedies.

Vernon and Everett's confrontations could not go unnoticed by Mel in Virgin River 6th season, but Vernon only admitted privately to Hope how much he despised Everett, because a child had died because of him.. The circumstances surrounding the child's death and what really happened were only revealed in Virgin River season 6, episode 8. However, the fact that a child died and affected Vernon hinted at an important plot of Virgin River season 1when Hope was unable to forgive Vernon for cheating on her with Charmaine's mother following the death of a young scarred Vernon patient.

While Hope and Vernon eventually got back together and had Virgin Riverthe best romance, The child's death hurt them greatly, then and in the years that followed, and Everett's appearance only reminded them of their pain and Vernon's guilt..

The meeting at the child's grave finally gave Everett and Vernon a chance to talk about the night Jordan died because Vernon was taking care of Everett in Virgin River Season 6, but Everett's explanation only made the whole ordeal more tragic. Vernon despised Everett because he thought he was drunk and went out for a walk, but Everett's confession that he didn't want to live after Sarah's death and knowing that Mel's father didn't want her to meet Everett completely changed the meaning of “I wish you would let me die”, making Vernon realize that Everett was a patient who really needed him.

Vernon, knowing Everett's mental state at the time, finally let Vernon bury the hatchet, causing their relationship to change for the better. However, knowing the truth added even more pain to a situation that already had so manywith Jordan's death, Vernon's infidelity and what it did to Hope, and now even Everett's desire to not continue living at the time. Learning the truth made Jordan's death the biggest and most tragic Virgin River story, which continues to haunt many of its residents 20 years later.
