Talking to EmpireAgatha all the time showrunner Jac Schaeffer recalls the moment she realized that Alice Wu-Gulliver wouldn't make it out of Witch Road alive. Although Schaeffer regretted killing Alice,
“It's really sad and it feels unfair. I know that's been the reaction from viewers, and I understand that, and I kind of feel that. But it's a show about death. It was imperative to take it seriously and feel both the beauty and the sadness of it. We deliberated on cutting that scene. I felt it was important to see Rio take someone. And I wanted Alice to articulate what the audience is feeling – But she died a hero.”
