Disney Exec Teases Future of Star Wars Movies and TV Shows, Promises 'Fantastic' Andor Season 2

A top Disney executive just revealed that Star Wars There are a lot of movies and shows in the works, as well as Andor Season 2, and several projects have not yet been announced. The future of Star Wars movies and TV shows has been a question mark for some time now, especially considering how few close Star Wars TV shows are currently known. There's more to come Star Wars films that were announced, but only The Mandalorian and Grogu has a confirmed release date. It looks like Disney is set to announce a lot more soon.

Put VultureAlan Bergman, co-president of Disney Entertainment, revealed that a series of Star Wars films and TV shows are in the works, some known and others yet to be announced. Bergman explained:

“In terms of what’s to come, we have Andor second season, which we are very excited about. It's excellent. I watched all the episodes and it's a fantastic season. And then we have Ahsoka second season, led by Dave Filoni. And then we'll look at a number of additional series that are in development. We'll see what we decide to do. Like I said before, they have to be great, and when we're in the position where we think we have what we want, we'll move on. In terms of films, at this point we have Mandalorianwhich will be released on Memorial Day '26, and we have several films that we are developing. When we are ready, we will make announcements about what they are.”

While Bergman didn't mention any new shows or movies in this review, this is a significant update as it means Star Wars is being more intentional about what's coming next, and more is coming soon.

Star Wars is taking its time – which is a good thing

What Bergman's comments make clearer is Star Wars is thinking much more carefully about your path forwardwhich explains why the announcements have been so few and far between. There was no Star Wars celebration in 2024 and many therefore believed that this year's D23 would include at least a few new announcements for the franchise. This turned out to be false, however, since the Star Wars reveals at D23 mainly consisted of some never-before-seen trailers and some updates about Andor and The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Given only The Mandalorian and Grogu has a confirmed release date and only Andor 2nd season and Ahsoka 2nd season are confirmed as Star Wars upcoming shows, this seemed at best disappointing and at worst alarming in terms of Star Wars future. Bergman's update provided at least some comfort on this matter. Clearly, more news is coming soon to the franchise, but Star Wars want to get it right. Ultimately, this is good news.

Our opinion on the future of Star Wars

We're ready to find out what's next

It will be exciting to see how Andor concludes, and Ahsoka the second season will undoubtedly also be brilliant. Even so, It's high time to Star Wars to reveal what comes next. The franchise has faced a number of obstacles in recent years, especially with backlash to several projects and The Acolyte cancellation, which made the future uncertain. Now, perhaps more than ever, the fan base needs something new and exciting to look forward to.

It makes sense that Star Wars I would like to take time to plan the path forward before announcing, especially given this recent history. Hopefully this caution means the franchise will soon be back on track with plenty of shows and movies coming. Presumably, with Star Wars Celebration 2025 in April just a few months away, Star Wars will reveal what comes next Andor 2nd season, Ahsoka 2nd season and The Mandalorian and Grogu.
