The Hulk's New Family Member Is Far Scarier Than Any Marvel Monster We've Seen Before

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Incredible Hulk #20 (2024)

While attacking viscera and fighting monstrous beasts, the Hulk expanded her gamma family by one, and she's equally horrible. Marvel Comics may have a vast catalog of monstrosities, but the Hulk's adopted daughter is one of the most terrifying yet. The Green Goliath seems to have a knack for capturing lost beasts, especially those who howl at the moon.

Incredible Hulk #20 – written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, with art by Danny Earls – is the first look at the Hulk's young sidekick, Charlie Tidwell, after developing his lycanthropic supernatural powers. Unlike Banner, Charlie's natural human body possesses incredible strength and dexterity, as if it were a costume that hides the wolf inside him.

Charlie Tidwell wearing the Lycana skin

Ironically, when in her new form, she is described as “wearing the skin of a Lycana”. The Hulk's “skinwalker” daughter is an absolute terror in monster movies. The Hulk may be Marvel's king of body horror, but Charlie Tidwell is the queen of legendary monsters.

Charlie Tidwell transforms in front of Jack Russell

In full wild form, Charlie commands his space well. She towers over all the beasts around, including the Werewolf by Night. Its snarling mouth is as large as an adult's body, while a pair of black feathered wings emerge from its densely muscled lycanthropic back. Even the Hulk is overshadowed by the magnitude of Lycana's skin. While Charlie may not have the same living viscera appearance as the other enemies in this series, his strength remains unmatched. The Hulk certainly proves to be the strongest monster yet, but Charlie's powerfully violent instincts cement her as a modern horror.

This, of course, is much more than just a wolf form. Lycana was the daughter of the Elder and granddaughter of the Mother of Horrors. When Charlie transforms, she wears the skin of a god. Running through his blood is the stain of the God of the Skinwalkers, a supernatural power that predates most of modern civilization. With the Ancient One now dead, Charlie remains the most powerful monster in the Mother of Horrors' monstrous lineage. Unfortunately, Lycana's new ship isn't the only lycanthropic god prowling in the darkness.

Marvel's New God of Skinwalkers Will Soon Take on the God of Werewolves

Incredible Hulk Promise A”Battle of the Blood Gods

The Hulk faces Varcolac, the God of Werewolves

While Charlie Tidwell may be the God of Skinwalkers, she will soon have to test her strength against the God of Werewolves, Varcolac. In real-world mythologies, vrykolakas are powerful undead wolf-like creatures that absorb and are empowered by blood. As Incredible Hulk #20 provocations, the next edition promises to be a “battle of the blood gods. Lycana may be one of the oldest monsters on Earth, but Charlie is still very young. However, if there is something that Hulk and his family have proven themselves capable, killing supernatural gods is their greatest power.

Incredible Hulk #20 is now available from Marvel Comics.
