Phil Coulson reveals his new superhero design and it's nothing like you're imagining

As Phil Coulson

returns to Marvel continuity, he's sporting a new redesign to match his superhero persona. However, those expecting the classic cape and tights are path off, as Coulson's new design makes a chilling change to the dedicated S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. The design is reasonable considering that – considering the power level – Coulson is now closer to a god than a superhero.

Phil Coulson's powers turn him into the Grim Reaper (literally)

Former SHIELD agent commands the Death Stone

In Derek Landy, Ruairí Coleman, Scott Hanna, Brian Reber, Erick Arciniega and Cory Petit's Infinity Clock #1Coulson brings together Marvel's Infinity Stone Bearers, attempting to transform the ragtag group into a true force for good. However, the reunited heroes and semi-reformed villains are shocked when Coulson appears disguised as the Grim Reapercomplete with scythe. This isn't an aesthetic change either – Coulson is now responsible for overseeing death in the Marvel Universe.

Recently, Thanos tied the cosmic entity known as Lady Death to an artificial Infinity Stone, creating the Death Stone. Like the other Infinity Stones, the Death Stone chose a host to fuse with on a biological level, resurrecting S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson and granting him control over death. Coulson used his powers to stop Thanos from claiming the Stones from the other Bearers, and gave them the chance to join him as Marvel's new Infinity Clock.

Coulson's alternate look is more understated (but still not your typical 'superhero')

At least he's considering a superhero codename

Coulson isn't permanently stuck in his 'Grim Reaper' form, instead taking it on for his mortal duties, as that's a comforting image for some of the deceased – or at least what they hope to see. Coulson also manages to adopt a more human form, but despite being one of Marvel's most famous superhero fans, he doesn't like the classic 'Superman' or 'Captain America' look. Instead of, Coulson wears a black suit with just a silver skull brooch suggesting its true nature.

Fortunately, it's possible that Coulson will soon try out a more superheroic look, similar to his Infinity Watch allies. During Infinity Clock #1Coulson faces a group of villains, releasing a beam of deadly energy he calls “deadly bolt.” This leads him to consider adopting this term as his codename, suggesting that despite his cosmic powers, Coulson's love for superheroes is still shaping his self-image as a heroic Grim Reaper.

Coulson may have been brought back from the dead and given immense power, but he brings with him great responsibilities of overseeing one of the Marvel Universe's primal powers. While Phil Coulson is trying to cope with these developments as a superhero, his new Grim Reaper form shows that he is something much, much more – a fact he will be forced to admit as he tries to lead the Marvel Universe's most powerful beings into a brighter world. . future.

The Infinite Clock #1 is now available from Marvel Comics.
