Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for episode 4 of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.Star Wars: Skeleton Crew just introduced audiences to another new planet, but highlights what was really wrong with the Jedi and the Sith. Even though the crew hasn't found their home world yet, Skeleton Crew Episode 4 continues to build the mystery surrounding Attin and why he is so hidden from others in the galaxy. While some questions have been answered, new questions have arisen surrounding Attin's connection to other planets – particularly that of the planet where the most recent episode of Skeleton Crew it happens.
Skeleton Crew Episode 4 sees the newest crew aboard the Onyx Cinder arriving on the planet At Achrann, which they originally believe to be their home planet of Attin. Although At Achrann originally resembles Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel's home planet, it is quickly apparent that while there are similarities between the two planets, they have not yet found their way home. What, then, is At Achrann and how does it influence the overall mystery and story of Skeleton Crew?
In Achrann is another jewel of the Old Republic
Attin was confirmed as one in episode 3
In Skeleton Crew episode 3, when visiting Kh'ymm, the owl-like creature reveals that Attin were the last hidden “Jewels of the Old Republic”, but this episode shows that In Achrann is another of these other nine worlds. Kh'ymm claims that Attin was hidden for its own protection because it was a wonderful planet. While the other eight planets would be destroyed, Attin became part of children's fairy tales and a legend that no one thought was real.
After Skeleton Crew episode 4, the audience now knows what the current state of Attin and At Achrann is. Despite that, It is not known what the state of the other seven planets is and whether they are “destroyed” in the same way as we saw in At Achrann. With many believing that the Jewels of the Old Republic and therefore Attin are full of treasures, it is no surprise that they want to remain hidden. As the only survivor of these nine planets, Attin can contain all of the other planets' treasures, making him more desirable to find.
In Achrann has been locked in a war for generations
It's a war-torn world
After Hayna takes Fern, Wim, KB, and Neel back to her fortress, it becomes apparent that At Achrann has been in conflict for generations; people just don't know a different way to live. This is evidenced by Hayna telling Neel that he is weak because he didn't have to fight for anything. Later, Hayna realizes that Neel's weakness is also kindness, something she doesn't seem very familiar with.. Hayna also states that she will take over as leader of the Troik when her father dies, indicating that At Achrann does not expect to find peace anytime soon.
SM-33 also tells Jod Na Nawood that he and his captain had to sneak past the different warriors of At Achrann when they went to the fallen sanctuary. SM-33 and her former captain were there witnessing the war-torn state of At Achrann shortly before the Onyx Cinder set a course for Attin.which could have happened long before the events of Skeleton Crew. It has not yet been revealed how long the Onyx Cinder and SM-33 were hidden on Attin before being found by the children, but it was long enough for vegetation to grow on the ship.
The planet in Achrann is a symbol of what happened in the galaxy
It's a metaphor for the Skywalker saga
THE Star Wars the galaxy wouldn't be as much fun without the constant conflict that affects the galaxy. However, over the multiple generations that audiences have seen during the course of the Skywalker saga, as well as the fall of the Jedi Order, each new generation inherits the wars and conflicts of the previous one. This can be seen with the Rebel Alliance taking on the burden after the Clone Wars, and the Resistance taking on the Rebel Alliance's burden in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Not only this, but each new generation has also become increasingly weakened by the scars of the past. This was seen with the Jedi and how they failed to learn from the mistakes of the previous generation. At Achrann it's exactly like that, but on a much smaller scale. This can be seen with the children of At Achrann have been turned into child soldiers and are expected to defend and continue the fight.
While Skeleton Crew episode 4 seemingly leaves the audience with the hope that Hayna will lead her people in the direction of goodness, it's hard to imagine that old habits of indoctrination will allow that to happen.
This weakening can also be seen in the children that Neel gives his meal to. The young children are clearly hungry and scared, but Because At Achran sees its children as adults, they are forced to inherit characteristics from the older generation without questioning why things have to be this way. While Skeleton Crew episode 4 seemingly leaves the audience with the hope that Hayna will lead her people in the direction of goodness, it's hard to imagine that old habits of indoctrination will allow that to happen.
At Achrann's name shows how dark Star Wars really is
The planet's name probably derives from ancient Greek mythology
Although the name At Achrann so far has no greater meaning in the universe, in the real world, the word “Achrann” probably derives from the word “Acheron” in ancient Greek mythology. The word means pain or river of anguish, and is literally the name of the river of Hades and the Underworld. With this in mind, it is not surprising that At Achrann is a dark and seemingly hopeless place.
It's unclear what else audiences will see from At Achrann, but Star Wars it certainly means that At Achrann represents a strong contrast to Attin. The clean suburbs compared to the post-apocalyptic, war-torn imagery of At Achrann show how different these planets are, despite apparently both being part of the Jewels of the Old Republic. Hopefully, Skeleton Crew provides answers about what happened to cause a generation-spanning war in At Achrann.
