The chainsaw man just changed Denji's relationship with Pochita forever, confirming a popular theory

Warning: Contains spoilers for Chapter 187 of Chainsaw Manchainsaw man kicked off the action in its final chapters, pitting Pochita against Aging in what could be the first defeat of a Primal Devil in the series. While it's not the first time fans have watched Pochita fight in his true form, the battle marks a significant change in the relationship between him and Denji. While the 'Hero of Hell' Chainsaw Man only appeared when his teenage self was out of commission, Chapter #187, simply titled “Barf!”, finds the old friends working together.

Denji and Pochita haven't worked together like this since before the two merged into a single Devil Hunter, and their current battle is cathartic and strangely wholesome. Although referenced by Makima at the beginning of Part One and only gaining substance through her two appearances throughout the series, the chapter also confirms the theory that Pochita is not only very much alive inside Denji, but the two are also able to communicate.

Denji and Pochita team up for the first time since the first chapter

The two chainsaw men are fighting together in separate bodies

Although Denji and Pochita are technically working together throughout the chainsaw manthe latest entry in the series finds the two fighting as separate individuals for the first time since the debut chapter. Every time Pochita appeared in his armored form before the current battle, Denji was locked away somewhere inside the Chainsaw Devil, protected by his friend. Chapter #187 is the series first fight in which Denji is aware of Pochita's presence at full strength.

Their communication also sheds some light on previous common misunderstandings and theories surrounding the two Chainsaw Men. Denji and Pochita are seen communicating throughout the story, even after Pochita becomes his heart, leading fans to believe. that the conversations were all one-sided imaginations of Denji. Since the two are able to communicate through a shared body in the last few chapters despite being in different places, it seems like Denji and Pochita may have been able to talk to each other the whole time.

Pochita may possess incomprehensible strength, but faced with a Primordial Demon, even he could use some help. In previous chapters, Denji was forced to vomit up the Snow and Bitterness Demons that were eaten by Pochita during the Sushi arc. And now, with attacks completely unable to harm the Aged Devil, Denji has yet another genius idea, and tells Pochita to make him vomit another demon to help in the battle. Unfortunately, the chapter ends before revealing what the devil it might be, and there are a few possibilities.

The most likely will be Octopus, the last demon that Pochita ate together with Bitterness, Snow and Boca. Yoshida disappeared after Octopus's erasure, and the Devil's return would likely bring the mysterious Demon Hunter back into the picture. Another interesting possibility could be one of Yoru's childrenlike nuclear weapons. If children are the property of their parents, as War Devil so diabolically stated just a few chapters ago, the return of one of her children might just force her and Asa out of the World of Aging.

chainsaw man Part Two appears to be reaching its climax and is taking the time to feature your oldest friends uniting in battle. The next few chapters are sure to explain many of the series' remaining mysteries, while also delivering some intense Devil action.
