THE Marvel Rivals developers shared this they're not thinking about adding a role queue to the game right nowinstead, hoping to see how the game develops with more freedom for players. Unlike more traditional hero shooters like Overwatch 2, the game allows players to create teams with any number of vanguards (tanks), duelists (DPS) and strategists (supports/healers) or even leave roles completely empty. While this is a positive for dynamic gameplay, many players have struggled in unbalanced matches, waiting for a role queue to fix things.
Marvel Rivals creative director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen shared that the team does not intend to implement a role queue anytime soon, wanting to encourage players to utilize various team compositions that make use of the game's unique team abilities. As they continue to collect positive data in the game's first few weeks, it is it seems like Marvel Rivals Don't need the limitations of a function queue at this time. Instead, the team will monitor compositions and how they affect the game, potentially looking to balance overpowered selections rather than preventing players from choosing a mix of characters.
Marvel Rivals developers are not considering adding role queue
NetEase's priority is on a wide variety of game styles
The NetEase team is not currently seeking fan feedback for implementing a function queue in Marvel Rivals, encouraging players to enjoy the creative freedoms that are at stake. Because they don't see their roles as traditional as other games in the genre, many characters are capable of doing more than simple tanking, damage, or support tags. With that in mind, players are encouraged to explore the potential of character combinations, with things so far being “rational and within expectations” according to the team.
Coming to Reddit to share the news, players have expressed a mix of opinions on this somewhat controversial topicseemingly tearing the fanbase in two. A player, who passes General_Narducky on Reddit, shared “It's frustrating to hear. My friend and I are already getting very frustrated with being demoted to tank and support every game if we want to win,” recognizing how this can affect the player's experience and enjoyment. Another user, GylGylGylGylGylGyloffers the opposite opinion, admitting “The more I play, the better I get without queuing” enjoying the variety and non-standard team play it offers.
Our opinion: giving players freedom is a good thing for now
Avoiding the role queue allows for more unique gameplay
While there are some fierce arguments for and against paper blocking Marvel Rivals, for now, it seems positive to explore the game's potential without him. If it's ever brought into the game, it'll be hard to take away again, and allowing players the freedom now to utilize unique compositions is a lot of fun. That's not to say the game is perfect where it is, with some players at least hoping for a “minimum 1” or “maximum 4” requirement placed on roles to limit total stacking to one role.
With the news of the Winter Celebration event, Marvel Rivals it seems like it's in a strong position at the moment, offering players lots of ways to play and things to have fun with. Despite the news that no role queue will be coming to the game anytime soon, It's clear that the NetEase team is paying attention to the fans and considering the future of the game very carefully. With that in mind, players should be hopeful that Marvel Rivals will continue to offer fun experiences to players whether with or without role lock in the future.
