Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Biggest Hurdle Revival Is Over

Countless beloved movies and TV shows have been revived in recent years, and now Buffy the Vampire Slayer could finally join those ranks due to some recent actor news. Initially released in 1997 Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a paranormal drama that follows Buffy Summers, a teenager also known as Slayer, a mythical figure destined to protect the world from vampires and other supernatural creatures. With the help of her best friends and her school librarian, Buffy does her duty while also dealing with typical high school student problems.

There is no doubt that recent years have seen a rise in remakes, spinoffs and revivals. Some of them have proven successful, reigniting love for older franchises. Of course, others were less successful. However, these types of projects continue to emerge and make audiences long for the return of their favorite series. One of these series is Buffy the Vampire Slayer which lasted seven seasons with great success. The show not only does it have a dedicated fan base, but it would also serve younger audiences well, making Buffy an ideal option for reboot.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is open to returning to Buffy The Vampire Slayer

What Gellar Has Done Since Buffy

After years of questioning, Buffy the Vampire Slayer could finally return now that its lead actress has expressed interest in a revival. Sarah Michelle Gellar played Buffy in all seven seasons of the TV show, leading to even more popular roles in projects like Cruel intentions, I know what you did last summer, and live action Scooby-Doo franchise. Some could argue that Gellar was the heart of Buffy, and that makes her approval extremely important. Not only did Gellar play the main character, but he also gave incredibly emotional and heartfelt performances in almost every episode.

Unfortunately, after Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, Gellar's spotlight faded a little. She continued to appear on television, but none of her series had the same success as Buffy. Many of her subsequent roles were voiceovers or cameos as herself. His film career suffered a similar decline. This decline is not necessarily a reflection of Gellar's talent, but it highlights how important Buffy it was for his career. Arguably, it was the perfect role for her. Thus, Gellar's renewed interest in Buffy through The Drew Barrymore Show could be an exciting step in the right direction.

Gellar's approval of a Buffy revival is not mandatory, but it helps the series to be revived in the best way possible. A producer could remake Buffy with a new cast of young actors taking on iconic roles. However, this is not the Buffy that many fans want to see. Many would just like to see Buffy return if Gellar is part of the project, specifically as Buffy. A big reason for this is the fact that Gellar played Buffy so well that it would have been risky to give the role to any other actor.

Arguably, a Buffy revival is as viable as a total remake. With Gellar on board, the actress could return to the small screen as Buffy Sommers, many years older but still fighting evil. The end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer implies that the Slayer's power was distributed among as many people as possible, which leaves Buffy in a unique position. Perhaps, Buffy continues to kill vampires, but also teaches other young Slayers to follow in her footsteps. She could take on the same mentor role that Giles did, but with her own sassy Buffy flair.

Alongside some new characters, Buffy and her friends could resume their previous roles and face their biggest threat yet. Keeping it short could be beneficial as there would be little risk of it being cancelled. Plus, with all of the original cast back in action, it would be easy for the series to feel like the old show. Ultimately, Gellar's recent comments create some hope that Buffy the Vampire Slayer could make his return.
