I saw the glow of the TV director Jane Schoenbrun is ready for a reboot Buffy the Vampire Slayerpromising to maintain an important element of the seminal supernatural teen drama. Schoenbrun won acclaim for 2021 psychological horror film Let's all go to the World's Fair. But it was the director's most recent film, A24's I saw the glow of the TVwhich is a deeply moving personal story and a tribute to Buffy and other series from the 1990s. Driven by audiences and critics, the horror drama focuses on two friends who come together through a television show called The Opaque Pink.
Amid renewed speculation about a possible Buffy restart, Schönbrun posted on X to share that they would be ready to reboot the beloved series. Crucially, though, Schoenbrun has 22 episodes per season. This would be in line with the original, outside of the first season, though it's hardly the norm in a streaming era that primarily favors eight to ten episodes per season.
It could be great (if it happens)
Talk about a Buffy the reboot kicked off again when lead star Sarah Michelle Gellar explained why she changed her views on reprising the role of Buffy Summers. Gellar, who currently stars on Showtime's Dexter prequel, explained that the prequel and other revivals helped her consider that it would be possible to make a revival work. Her response, in a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Showis included below:
Freeze: It's funny. I always said 'no,' like, because, you know, it's in the bubble and it's so perfect. But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter and realizing there are ways to do that definitely makes your mind wonder.
The actor's response is notable, not least because Gellar has largely maintained a reluctance to revisit the iconic series. But the official word on the Buffy executive producer Gail Berman's reboot is the project is on pause. Still, if the reboot were to move forward, Schoenbrun would be an excellent choice.
The film, led by Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine, with supporting roles for Danielle Deadwyler and Fred Durst, is filled with references to Twin Peaks. But for those who grew up a little later with BuffyThe references in the A24 film are also plentiful. There are small details that just make the tribute cooler, like The Opaque Pinkseason six is a significant turning point. But beyond the references, I saw the glow of the TV is a great film that features one of the most disturbing scenes of 2024
Our Take on Schoenbrun Doing a Buffy Reboot
It looks great
One of the biggest problems with reboots and revivals is that they try to recreate the original without realizing that the original spark is gone. Based on your work with Word fair and I saw the glow of the TVwith the latter proving to be absolutely visually arresting, Schoenbrun could put his own stamp on the series while still honoring what it is. They directed one of the best horror films of the year, featuring the chilling villain Mr. Melanchoy, while delving into personal loss and grief that is far more terrifying. Definitely looks like the best of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
