Old X-Men leader Charles Xavier experienced a stunning fall from grace when the nation of Krakoa collapsed, as tthe mind of the “world's most dangerous mutant” controlled thousands of his fellow mutantsand apparently sided with Orchis in an attempt to save his people. Since the new X-Men From the ashes era premiered, Xavier has been imprisoned in Graymalkin Prison, the former site of the Xavier Institute, but will soon escape in an epic new crossover – X Hunt – which sees the X-Men fighting with Xavier on the run.

Charles Xavier allowed himself to be imprisoned on Graymalkin, although it was revealed that Orchis' betrayal was actually a ruse, so that the hatred towards mutants could be directed at him… but something made Xavier feel the need to escape.

The saga begins when Professor X escapes from Graymalkin Prison, sowing division and discord among the different mutant factions.
