Warning: contains SPOILERS for carry-on luggage!

Netflix Continue features a massive criminal conspiracy involving all sorts of players, so here's the villains' plan, who the group members were, and what they really wanted. Netflix has released a lot of crime thrillers over the years, but what makes Continue unique is the Christmas setting, with the film being part of a niche genre created by Die Hard films. Just like other films of the genre ContinueThe story is motivated by a group of terrorists with mysterious motives, whose true plans will only be revealed at the end of the film.

2024 Continue stars Taron Egerton as Ethan Kopek, a low-level TSA agent who gets a chance to be promoted to work in the security line. On his first day, however, Ethan is contacted by Jason Bateman's criminal villainknown only as the Traveler. The Traveler tells Ethan that if he doesn't let a certain suitcase through security, his wife will be killed. Ethan then has to determine what's really in the bag and figure out how to keep everyone safe without alerting the Traveler to his plans. However, Ethan has no idea how big the conspiracy really is.

Everyone who was involved in the hand luggage operation

The group of villains has many members

ContinueJason Bateman's criminal conspiracy had many members, but the most present was Jason Bateman's Traveler. The Traveler acts as the leader of the group of criminals, working for a mysterious organization and being tasked with ensuring that the Novichok nerve agent is successfully released on a specific plane. Theo Rossi plays the Traveler's right-hand man, known as the Watcher. Throughout the film, the Watcher sits in a van in a parking lot and monitors the airport, using a sniper to occasionally spring into action.

The group was also aided by a mysterious blue-haired woman. Very little is known about this character, although she is seen giving Ethan the headset he uses to communicate with the Traveler, as well as bringing the Traveler a parachute later in the film. A mysterious man posing as Agent Alcott also becomes involved, with him infiltrating the police force to eliminate Detective Elena Cole. These are the four main members of the conspiracy, although there are two other reluctant members of the group seen throughout Continue.

Mateo Flores is the one who is tasked with getting the suitcase through security, and he is the one who was initially supposed to release the Novichok nerve agent onto the plane. It is revealed that the criminals kidnapped Mateo's husbandwith him being forced to do this if he wants his husband to live. This is similar to how the last member of the group gets involved, with the Traveler forcing Ethan Kopek to let Mateo through security if he wants his wife to live. However, Ethan eventually goes rogue and manages to escape alive, while Mateo is not so lucky.

Why were villains attacking Grace Turner

She was a politician who apparently wasn't involved

Although The Traveler initially makes it seem like the villains just want to kill random civilians on a plane headed to New York City, that's not the case. At the end of the film it is revealed that the Traveler actually wants the nerve agent to be released on a plane bound for Washington D.C. with a specific politician named Grace Turner being targeted.

All over Continueseveral of Grace Turner's political advertisements are seen, with her discussing a piece of legislation that aims to protect democracies that are in danger. If this legislation were to pass, it would benefit gun manufacturers immensely. However, he has no votes, which leads a group associated with weapons manufacturers to attempt to assassinate Grace Taylor.

While it may seem counterintuitive to assassinate the politician who supports the bill they want passed, it actually makes sense. The villains hope that by killing Grace Taylor, the United States is led to think that the murder was committed by a country that would be negatively impacted by the legislation. This would generate more support for the bill, allowing it to pass successfully.

The nerve agent the villains plan to use on Continue it's Novichok, a weapon first developed in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. By using this specific nerve agent, it will place even more blame on Russia, as it is one of the countries that will be most significantly impacted by the law. The villains believe that by pitting Russia and the United States against each other, the United States will certainly respond by passing the law. This will line the pockets of weapons manufacturers, bringing them the main thing they profit from: war.

Who was Jason Bateman's character and what did he want?

The traveler's motivations are completely mysterious

Jason Bateman's Traveler is an incredibly mysterious character, as very little is known about him. The Traveler says he's just in it for the money, being hired to make sure the plan works. The Traveler claims he is not a terrorist because he has no political, religious or ideological motivation, and does not particularly care about the legislation his employers want to see passed. For the Viajante, this is just one of many works.

One of the few details the Traveler reveals about himself is that he has a son. However, since the Traveler constantly lies to Ethan, this could also be a lie. The answer to this mystery will probably never be known, because, at the end of the Continuethe Traveler is killed after Ethan locks him in a refrigerator with the Novichok nerve gas.

What happened to the blue-haired woman?

She's the big loose end of the carry-on luggage

With the rest of the criminals dead at the end of Continuethere is a loose end: the woman with blue hair. The blue-haired woman is last seen giving the Traveler a parachutewith her never being seen again after that point. It's possible that she simply escaped during the madness of the day's events, as all of her co-workers ended up dead. It could also be that, like Mateo and Ethan, the blue-haired woman was unwittingly involved in the crime. The Traveler's death would have given him the chance to be free, which is one of the biggest questions at the end of Continueof history.
