In 2016, Hulu announced that it would adapt Sarah J. Maas' Throne of Glassand created a buzz of excitement among fans of his epic fantasy novels. The TV show was originally supposed to be called Queen of Shadowsafter the fourth book in the series – and Maas even teased the development of the initial script for her pilot episode Instagram. However, what appeared to be a promising Hulu acquisition was mysteriously halted and no further updates for a Throne of Glass TV show adaptations have since been made.

It's a shame that Hulu never made any progress with the project, as the source material has the ability to become a worldwide phenomenon that could rival HBO's adaptation of Game of Thrones. And the immersive world-building, political setting, and magic system found throughout the world Throne of Glass series would have been perfect Game of Thrones replacement. With so much potential, Hulu's forgotten Sarah J. Maas adaptation is a huge disappointment – and with little information about why the project was shelved, fans are unlikely to see this series on screen anytime soon.

The TV show was adapted from Martin's book A Song of Fire and Ice books, and shows that a great fantasy series can be adapted well for television if done correctly – and Throne of Glass would have had the same success with its own series adaptation if Hulu had continued with the project. Throne of Glass' expansive world-building would have become an award-winning spectacle, akin to Game of Thrones.

Although there are similar themes between the two fantasy series Throne of Glass has its own unique qualities that wouldn't make its adaptation seem like a Game of Thrones regurgitation.

Their similarities simply prove Throne of Glass would have looked good on screenand bringing some of its terrifying creatures and characters to life – like the wyverns and the valg – would have made for a great TV show.

Game of Thrones was a worldwide phenomenon and without a doubt the best fantasy series adaptation of the last ten years. However, Hulu Throne of Glass The TV show had the potential to become an even bigger hit. In addition to the sprawling universe and epic action sequences found throughout Maas' best-selling fantasy series, its large cast of characters would have had a huge impact on Hulu's adaptation – and could have led to thrilling Throne of Glass casting choices. Given Throne of Glass is written in multiple POVs, Hulu would have the opportunity to really expand on some of the series' smaller supporting characters.

Throne of Glass adaptation stand out among others of its kind.
