Marvel just responded to a pesky Wolverine plot hole with the help of the TSA. No, seriously

Marvel just resolved a plot hole in Wolverine that many fans may not have even considered – namely, how a character with a metal skeleton passes through a metal detector without being detected. Now, Wolverine's daughter Laura Kinney has given fans a response, claiming that she has a pacemaker. Whether she actually does this or not is still unclear, but in either case, it explains how she manages to avoid being scanned.

NYX (2024) #6 – written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, with art by Michael Shelfer – shows the book's cast taking a group trip to see a Dazzler show.

When the young team arrives at the show, they have to pass through metal detectors. Of course, the detectors go off when Wolverine passes by, because of her metal claws, but she jokes that she has a pacemaker – leaving Kamala Khan to wonder if this is true or notin a brief, memorable scene early in the issue.

The casual way Laura Kinney walks through the metal detector in NYX It's a fun character beat for her, as she takes on a mentoring role among the series' younger cast. It also recalls previous moments when Logan, the original Wolverine, bypassed security in similar ways. As a war veteran, Logan carries a card that claims he has metal implants in his bones, so he can pass through airport security without any problems. He even used this card to enter the Pentagon once, alongside Storm and Captain Marvel.

Laura’s “pacemaker” solution is simple and effective – although NYX #6 slyly leaves open the possibility that she actually has one.

Logan also demonstrated much less subtle ways of getting through airport security. If there's an emergency, going through the metal detectors and risking getting shot will cause a scene, but he'll get where he needs to be. In one memorable moment, he used a distraction by placing a hand grenade-shaped soap in another traveler's bag. Laura’s “pacemaker” solution is simple and effective – although NYX #6 slyly leaves open the possibility that she actually has one.

Wolverine having a pacemaker actually makes more sense than readers might think

But if she does it's TBD

Laura Kinney, the new Wolverine, having a pacemaker may not make much sense at first glance. Since she shares the same regenerative healing factor as Logan, Laura would likely never develop the type of heart problem that requires implantation of a pacemaker. However, Marvel fans know that Laura was designed to be a perfect assassin – and a pacemaker could theoretically be useful during stealth missions in order to stabilize or slow down her heartbeat as needed. That said, most likely the pacemaker is just an excuse to get Laura through the metal detectors and avoid raising her profile.

Considering they not only have metal-clad skeletons, but large blades attached to each of their hands – and, in Laura's case, feet – both versions of Wolverine benefit from not attracting attention, in the cases where they encounter a metal detector. Having these medical excuses, whether true or not, helps you avoid all the problems of having adamantium claws. on your wrists at the airport, or at a Dazzler show, and allows Wolverineboth young and old, to get on with their lives without a thorough search.
