When it comes to horror, Blumhouse continues to be Hollywood's leader in terms of production. The company is behind horror hits like To go out (2017), M3GAN (2022), Silence (2016), and The Invisible Man (2021), with the Blumhouse model dated 2007 Paranormal Activity. Making films on low budgets, giving creative freedom to filmmakers, and releasing horror films through the studio system is how Blumhouse operates, and it has resulted in some strong successes in recent years.
Blumhouse had a relatively strong 2024starting the year with Night Swimmingwhich may not have fared well with critics, but was a box office success. Serving as an American remake of a 2022 Danish film of the same name, Blumhouse's horror film stars James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy and Aisling Franciosi, following a family as they escape into a country house with another family. becomes sinister. Don't speak badly reviews were positive from critics, with the film earned an 83% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes to go along with its audience score.
Following Don't speak badlylaunching on Peacock on December 6th, Reelgood now reveals that Blumhouse's remake ranks as the sixth most popular film streaming in the US for the week of December 5-11. The film surpasses titles like My old ass (2024), Subservience (2024), and Fly me to the moon (2024), but falls short of other horror films like The substance (2024) and Alien: Romulus (2024), and Smile 2 (2024) with Beetle juice Beetle juice (2024) occupying first place. What Speak No Evil's streaming success means for the film
The Blumhouse film was also a box office success
Don't speak badly was made with an estimated budget of US$15 million and ended up raising US$76 million worldwide. This impressive worldwide total comprises just under US$37 million domestically and US$39 million abroad. Considering the film was likely breaking even between $30 million and $37.5 million, it was clearly a commercial success for Blumhouse as well as a critical success.
Although Blumhouse has historically made a number of sequels to its horror hits, with M3GAN 2.0for example, now confirmed to be on the way, the Don't speak badly the ending makes it unlikely that another film will move forward. Even more than the original, the remake ends the story in a definitive way that suggests that these characters' journeys are over.
