When compared to other hero shooters, Marvel Rivals is launching with a huge roster that compares to other titles years after release. For context, Rivals launched with an impressive roster of thirty-three heroes, up from Playtest's twenty-three, which would be more than large enough to launch most hero shooters. Compare this with Surveillance 1release list of twenty-one heroes, and it's easy to see that Marvel Rivals it is growing with practically all elements. A roster of thirty-three is a far cry from where hero shooters originally came from.
Team Fortaleza 2 is considered the first major hero shooter that set the standard, while Surveillance is credited with making the genre popular, winning GOTY 2016 at the Game Awards. TF2 has classes, and considering its release in 2007, the game only has nine of themstill without reaching double digits. Marvel Rivals seems to be getting bigger and bigger with its immense list of releases, although it still has a long way to go before it arrives Paladins fifty-nine champions. With all the character leaks, Wonder Rivals' list could achieve Paladins numbers faster than expected.
Marvel Rivals is getting a lot more new heroes
The list is growing quickly
As soon as the game was released, dataminers went to work combing through the files to look for where Marvel Rivals will in the future. Combine this with leaks, with Rival leaks with X being the source of many of them, and it's clear that NetEase isn't slowing down. Twelve characters have already been leaked to join the cast: Angela, Blade, Captain Marvel, Emma Frost, Hit-Monkey, Jean Gray aka Phoenix, Johnny Storm aka Human Torch, Knull, Mister Fantastic, Susan Storm aka Invisible Woman, The Thing and Ultron.
Some of these characters already have artwork done for them and are at different levels of development. Just like the launch list, there is a mix of obscure characters, like Angela, daughter of Odin and an angel, and Hit-Monkey, an assassin who is a monkey for some reason, and popular characters, like The Fantastic Four. It's unclear how these characters will be added and whether they will be added in batches. as Thor and Jeff the Land Shark were added as a pair midway through Playtest in August.
With Season 0 focused on Doom, it makes sense that the Fantastic Four are on the horizon, possibly arriving in Season 1 as a result of everything the two Dooms do in the story behind the scenes. Knull has already been teased and is the source of a map objective, being mentioned by an interaction between Hela and Venom, so he could be the Season 1 villain instead of Doom. It could be Ultron too, and it's weird that Doom is not among the leaked characters to join Marvel Rivals considering your game status.
Adding heroes too quickly brings complications
Twelve are already on the horizon
With a current roster of thirty-three, if the twelve leaked characters are added in the next six months, will probably hit Surveillance 2list number forty-two. Marvel Rivals will have a roster of forty-five characters at some point, and a roster that large, especially if it expands as quickly as it seems, could bring some balance issues. These balance problems plagued Surveillance 1 as his list grew, and Marvel Rivals I could be making the same mistake.

The balance has already been flagged as a problem with Marvel Rivalsespecially with Iron Fist; however, any competitive game will have balance issues and complaints no matter how well it is done. League of Legends There's a lot, despite being one of the biggest competitive games in a decade and a halfbut adding heroes quickly can exacerbate these problems if they are not tested properly. There is a lot of freedom and frantic fun with Rivals at the moment, but that could change if a character like SurveillanceBrigitte is added which breaks the goal.
To put it into context, the inclusion of Brigitte resulted in Surveillance wiping out DPS characters in the competitive scene. The GOATS meta was formed, requiring three tanks and three supportswith one of those supports being Brigitte, resulting in role queuing and therefore less freedom for players to do whatever they wanted. Balance has become a problem for Surveillance because of their new heroes, and it could be the same thing if Rivals releases all of these characters without testing, but it also depends on NetEase's intention with its hero shooter and ten million strong player base.
Marvel's rivals may not need to be perfectly competitive
Focusing on the majority of players will keep the game fun
Although Marvel Rivals It has some balance issues in its current state, isn't restrictive, and is still a lot of fun, if a little chaotic at times. Ultimately, depends on what NetEase wants the game to become and where it takes it. If the focus is fun, and fun only, then perhaps don't try to inorganically support an ESports league, and thus balance or develop the game with that intention, as was the case with Surveillance. As long as the game remains fun and unrestricted with things like role queue, balancing issues here and there might not matter as much.
If NetEase focuses on the majority of its players, rather than the elite who make money through ESport, then the balance will likely be good enough to keep the game fun, and perhaps it doesn't need to be perfectly balanced to be enjoyed if the competitive scene is not the main focus. Smash Bros. is a good example of a series made as a partisan fight where chaos reigns and fun is the name of the game, but players still enjoy the competitive scene despite this.
Marvel Rivals shouldn't isolate the largest casual fan base to fuel the competitionand that will always be there as long as the game is good. While adding a slew of new characters makes the balance difficult, and there will likely be many patches to try and alleviate these issues, as long as there isn't a character that completely breaks the meta and the game is still fun enough for a casual audience, the title should prosper with the Wonder IP behind it. NetEase only needs to test each character thoroughly to avoid creating a game-breaking character.
