The Game Awards 2024: all the winners and prizes

The biggest video game award, The Game Awards 2024, has just closed, giving many the honor of being recognized for their achievements in the sector over the last twelve months. This year, TGA 2024 handed out 30 awards across a wide variety of categories, including Player's Choice and the highest honor of Game of the Year. Geoff Keighley's annual celebration of gaming is one of the biggest events of the year in the gaming community, with multiple world premiere announcements and trailers mixed in during the awards ceremony.

2024 was another very good year for video gameswith lots of amazing releases across all genres. Even the nominees for the highly coveted Game of the Year award seem to cover a wide range, from Astrobotfamily platform, BalatroThe roguelike card game and even expansions and remakes like Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Dark Myth: Wukong and Metaphor: ReFantazio are both strong contenders for GOTY as well. Game of the Year isn't the only award today, with several incredible games, developers and more being recognized for their work.

The winners were announced during The Game Awards 2024 live stream event, which took place in front of a live audience in Los Angeles and was broadcast on the official The Game Awards channel YouTube channel, as well as other social media. As usual, awards were given in 30 categories, including Game Direction, Storytelling, Music and more. Each of the Game of the Year contenders also appeared in other nominations, giving them a better chance of taking home an award. Both Astrobot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth were nominated for seven of the categories.

2024 GOTY among six nominees

TeamASOBI ASTROBOT took home the biggest honor of the night, winning the 2024 Game of the Year award from The Game Awards. The light-hearted platformer that grew out of a technological demonstration of the PlayStation 5's abilities quickly won the hearts of its players. Its catchy music, creative platforming levels, and the plethora of bot appearances from throughout PlayStation history have made this little game a truly special piece of gaming entertainment.

ASTROBOT not only won the GOTY, but was also recognized with awards for Best Family Game, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Game Direction. Each of these awards and their other nominations in the The Game Awards 2024highlight everything the team did right in creating ASTROBOTwhile also emphasizing the pure pleasure that can come from video games.
