Warhammer 40K: Marine 2 presents many essential elements of 40K universe, from hordes of Tyranids to the many Space Marine Chapters and the heretical forces of Chaos. Although the game follows Titus, a lieutenant in the Ultramarine ranks and protagonist of the first Space Marine game and your team, there are also some pre-existing characters named after War Hammer 40K tradition. An example of this is Marneus Calgar, a great name in War Hammer 40K universe that is also the subject of a short comic book run.
Those familiar with the War Hammer 40K universe and tradition probably saw more of Calgar than they wantedbut I also really liked the cinema where he enters to save the day Space Marine 2. For the uninitiated, they might not know what was going on and why Marneus Calgar got so many dramatic slow-motion shots. He was featured in the game's best cinematic and launches a massive counterattack to start Space Marine 2the final battle. Although the game tells players their position, it doesn't detail how much of a monster Calgar is.
Marneus Calgar is the chapter master of the Ultramarines
And he's one of the best-known names in 40K
Marneus Calgar is the Chapter Master (essentially the leader) of the Ultramarinesand is Lord of Macragge, the capital world of the kingdom of Ultramar. Additionally, he underwent additional mysterious processes to become a powerful Primaris Marine, making him far more powerful than the average brother in his Chapter's ranks. Unlike many other Space Marines, he was not the son of a noble house. He was a servant of House Calgar and was called Tacitan, although he was friends with the original Marneus Calgar before they both became Ultramrine Aspirants.
Together, Tacitan and Marneus discovered that their trainer was corrupting Aspirants and fought against him, only for Marneus to fall in battle. Tacitan was saved by the late intervention of an Ultramarine, and then took the name Marneus to share his glory with his best friend. There ended up being a lot of glory to share. Calgar is famous as a champion of humanity, a brilliant strategist, and a general who leads his troops from the front. He is everything the Ultramarines aspire to be and one of the most powerful warriors in the ranks of the Imperium of Man.
Calgar is controversial despite its popularity
He's very OP for a space marine
Why Calgar is one of the nominees War Hammer 40K characters, he gets a lot of special treatment through the comics and storytelling in general, so much so that he starts to break tradition through how powerful he ends up being written. For context, Calgar should just be a very powerful, experienced and intelligent Ultramarine, but he has talents equivalent to those of the Primarchs. He defeated an Avatar of Khaine with a single punch, an enemy who fought Fulgrim face to face.one of the 20 Primarchs, which should be a feat far beyond Calgar's means.
This isn't the only case where Calgar does outrageous things while being the world's superhero. 40K universe. He beat a Daemon Prince into submission (tearing him limb from limb in official records) who was too powerful to be banished and was known for killing Space Marines with a single thought. Daemon princes are essentially demigodsand Calgar will still return to finish the job later, when this Daemon Prince returns. He also killed a Swarmlord by punching him to death, and this appears to be his signature way of killing his enemies.
Calgar is one of the faces of Warhammer 40K
He gets a little too much love, though
The crux of the Calgar controversy comes from how dominated it isand almost all of his greatest feats were accomplished before he went through additional processes to become a Primaris Marine. He seems to be able to solve almost any problem by punching him in the face, and this problem is further compounded by the extra attention Ultramarines tend to receive. Still, Calgar is cool enough to have his fans, affectionately called “Papa Smurf”, as he is responsible for the blue Ultramarines, and his inclusion during Space Marine 2the ending of is well liked.
Calgar's controversial nature and ability to punch anything to death with his gauntlets doesn't change how incredible his entrance is during the events of Warhammer 40K: Marine 2. He comes to save his Ultramarines, as he always does, but Titus still manages to be the savior of the day despite Papa Smurf being a short distance away from Imurah. The game handles his inclusion better than most other material, making him an incredible and powerful commander while letting its protagonist, Titus, be the hero.
