That's why, Kayce worked closely with Chief Rainwater and Mo, despite the Indian community's rivalry with John about where the boundaries are between farm lands and indigenous lands.
Currently, Rainwater wants to stop the construction of a gas pipeline that would pass through the reservation and squeeze the indigenous people onto an even smaller piece of land, while Kayce needs someone to take over the farm so he can buy it back at a low price. Additionally, Rainwater showed up at the ranch to offer his support after John's death, and Mo helped Kayce warn John's killer to stay away from his family. That's why, it would make sense for Kayce to strike a deal with the indigenous community to protect both the farm and the reservation from developers.
Why Kayce's Plan Is the Best Way to Solve the Dutton Ranch (and the Perfect Ending for It)

Kayce's plan would be the perfect ending for him and the Dutton ranch. Chief Rainwater has long wanted to reclaim the land on which the ranch sits, which belonged to his ancestors. It is also equally important for him to protect the reserve from the gas pipeline or similar developments. Given Kayce's relationship with the tribal leaders, it's likely he can get Rainwater to sell him the ranch back at a low price or share control of it.
