Second season of CBS' hit action drama Tracker finds its hero Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) facing a lot of conflict in his personal life and in his work as an elite tracker, but the structure of the second season so far has made it very difficult to care. Colter tackles a different weekly case, including missing family members, a lost dog, organized crime and supernatural elements. The survival expert himself went missing until Colter's brother Russell (Jensen Ackles) tracked him down and helped find another missing man in episode 2, “Ontological Shock.”
In addition to reuniting with Russell, Colter also has some unresolved personal cases that haven't yet been given enough depth for the audience to fully care about. This includes the Shaw family mystery surrounding the death of the tracker's father, Ashton (Lee Tergesen), along with the decade-long white whale case involving Gina Picket's disappearance. Tracker Season 2, Episode 8, which served as the fall finale, began to develop Colter's involvement with the latest case, but the question is to what extent this mystery (and other cases) will be unraveled during the show's return in 2025.
Tracker Season 2's Overarching Plot Is Barely Set Up
Gina's disappearance doesn't have the depth of Colter's usual cases
Although the Gina Picket case was a challenging and intriguing case for Colter, the show fails to establish why this particular case haunts him, other than the fact that it is unsolved, and he has an on-and-off relationship with Gina's sister, Camille (Floriana Lima). When Camille meets Colter in Tracker Season 2, Episode 8, “The Night Movers”, she tells him that they should let it go and accept that Gina is gone, leaving a sense of dissatisfaction that Camille has given up hope of finding her sister alive.
Colter takes a break when Keaton (Brent Sexton), a retired cop and new ally this season, finds someone who knows what happened to Gina. Unfortunately, that's where the fall finale ends, leaving viewers wondering what this suspect knows and the connection to Gina. While it shows that Gina Picket's story is finally gaining traction, Tracker It's already a third of the way through season two and it still hasn't offered a reason for the audience to care about Gina, Camille, or the case. It's a real problem considering there are other, probably more interesting stories being neglected in this one.
Tracker Season 2 Ignores Stories That Really Need Resolution
Coltler's other unresolved stories deserve more attention this season
There are other essential plots that the series ignored during its second season. For example, the death of father Ashton Shaw was the central mystery of season 1, but there has been no update so far this season about how Colter's father died other than him and Russell briefly mentioning it to each other in episode 2. Due to This being a personal family matter, this mystery sets up as Colter's big case, and more expected confrontations between him and Russell so that they can solve their problems and understand what happened to their father.
Another key storyline that deserves answers is Teddi Bruin (Robin Weigert), an original character from Season 1 who worked with Colter and was crucial in managing his caseload. While Teddi's wife and Colter's other handler, Velma (Abby McEnany), tells the tracker team in the Season 2 premiere that Teddi is out of town and helping her mother, it's unclear where she is and whether she will still be a part of it. of the team in the future. The question needs to be answered anyway. Added to this is the lingering romantic tension between Colter and Reenie Grene (Fiona Rene), which has amounted to nothing more than a few awkward moments.
What Tracker Season 2, Part 2 needs to do to fix its narrative
Tracker should go back to basics from season 1
By now, it's clear the second part Tracker season 2 needs more organizational structure and details on Shaw's personal cases. Gina's disappearance should clarify Colter and Camille's relationship, reveal the importance of Gina's character, and prove Keaton's importance as Colter's ally. After Gina's case is resolved, the mystery of who killed Colter's father must be solved in the Season 2 finale for a final payoff that reveals why he died, what he was involved in, and resolves the long-standing problems in Colter's relationship. Colter and Russell.
Tracker needs to return to the roots of what worked in the first season to get back on track this season.
The supernatural elements were an intriguing addition to Season 2, especially with the addition of Supernatural stars Jenson Ackles as a tribute to him and that popular series. However, Colter and his cases tend to be more exciting when the tracker faces more practical, grounded situations in the case-of-the-week format. Tracker needs to return to the roots of what worked in the first season to get back on track this season.
Tracker Season 2 will return to CBS in February 2025.
