How to romance multiple partners in Baldur’s Gate 3

One of the most praised parts of Baldur’s Gate 3The gameplay is its rewarding romance system, where you can not only romance your favorite companion, but also romance two if you do it right. From early in act one, through act three, You will be able to pursue a relationship with any of the companions that join your party during the game, except for Minsc and Jaheira. You can’t introduce polyamory to your game until later because it will take some trust between yourself and your original partner first.

You can choose to romance any of the main companions, and romancing them each takes a bit of a different effort. The main thing to remember is to make choices that you think align with their character. For example, in order to romance Karlach, players should always take the opportunity to be a hero, as Karlach’s past as a soldier informs her present-day desire to always do good. Not every companion will be okay with you taking another lover, however, so you’ll want to check with them first before you go gallivanting under the sheets with someone else.

Act one

Act Two

Act Three

Shadow

Fine with it, as long as it’s not with Leezel.

She will ask you to become exclusive or break things off.

Only exclusive.

Asterion

Good with him, reluctant to share her with Shadowheart.

Fine with Halsin and Mintara, but you need to talk first.

Fine with Halsin and Myntra

Karlach

Good with him.

Once her infernal engine is fixed, and you can be physical, she will ask to be exclusive.

Only exclusive.

Myntra and Halsin

Good with him, as long as they get along with the other person.

In general, all companions are okay with you having another partner at the beginning of the game. Whether it’s because they don’t really care about you yet, or because your relationship isn’t that serious, Most of them will ask to become exclusive sometime during Act Two as your relationship deepens. The only exception to this is Astarion with Halsin or Minthara, which takes a bit of conversation before you can advance.

How to romance more than one partner

It’s pretty easy in act one, but act two is when it gets serious

As you can see from the chart above, most of the companions are fine with you having more romantic partners during Act One, but they will start asking for commitment in Act Two. This really comes to light if you enter Act Two with Halsin by your side. The little flirtation he exhibits at the tiefling party comes out in full force, and if you flirt back, your partner will probably have something to say about it.

You can choose to break up with your current partner, sure, But if you are romancing Astrion, there is no need to break up with him. If you talk to him, he responds with a laugh, telling you that he was wondering how long it would take for you to ask him that.
