with Dark matter Season 2 now confirmed to be happening, The Apple TV + show can continue the story of its rich world of charactersIncluding in which corner of the multiverse the Dessen family will settle. Dark matter Season 1’s ending showed Jason Dessen and his family opening the door to a new reality, but the finale never reveals the world they’re looking at. One theory creates some exciting storylines for these Dark matter Season 2 cast as the saga continues.
Blake Crouch, author of the original 2016 novel, returns to the showrunner’s chair for Dark matter Season 2. Many changes were made to the Dark matter book to create season 1 of the show, but no alteration was more significant than the open-ended nature of the run’s conclusion. Dark matters interdimensional journey works very differently from other multiverse franchises, thus The descent could technically end up almost anywhere with only very little control about their destination. That said, there is one possible reality that is more likely than most to be in Dark matter Season 2.

Jason, Daniela and Charlie Dessen could build a new life in the futuristic Chicago Universe
The Dark Matter reality may have caused Charlie Dessen’s reaction at the end of season 1
at the end of Dark matter Season 1, Episode 9, “Entanglement,” Joel Edgerton’s Jason Dessen steps into what is presumably his family’s new home universe. The look on the faces of Daniela and Charlie is one of sheer astonishment, and very few universes of those that have been shown so far illicit this response. however, The futuristic Chicago is one of those rare realities that is awe-inspiring rather than terrifying Or just not that different from our own. Jason has already visited this universe, so the fact that he’s more interested in monitoring Charlie’s reaction in “Entanglement” rather than what’s out the door makes perfect sense.
Even if the universe the Desens step into at the end of “Entanglement” isn’t futuristic Chicago, it could still become their eventual home. There is currently very little information about how and when the story will pick up. If there is a time jump between seasons 1 and 2, then It could be that the Dessen family tried several different universes Before you choose one to settle in. With so many options and such a variety of potential errors, it’s very real. That said, the futuristic Chicago makes the most sense from a narrative perspective.
Jason returns to the futuristic Chicago setting up awkward encounters with Ryan Holder and Amanda Lucas
Jason’s Daniela may have an uncomfortable conversation with Amanda
There are already at least two confirmed familiar faces Dark matters futuristic universe. Jimmi Simpson’s Ryan Holder – the version of Jason’s original reality – was stranded there by Jason2 in season 1. Alice Braga’s Amanda Lucas chose to stay there rather than star Jason’s journey homeBut she seems very settled during her surprise meeting with Ryan at the end of Dark matter Season 1. Both of these characters meeting Jason Dessen again could make for some thoroughly enrapturing storylines.
From Ryan’s perspective, it was the story’s “main” Jason that dumped him into his new version of what he was forced to call home.
From Ryan’s perspective, it was the story’s “main” Jason that dumped him into his new version of what he was forced to call home. Although it was Jason2, this can be a difficult thing to explain because Jason and his multiversal copy share the same face, voice and even large parts of their past. Amanda’s reunion with Jason may be similarly uncomfortable but for different reasons.

Jason and Amanda grew very close as they traversed the multiverse togetherWith the couple coming very close to leaving their journey and settling down together. When they finally decided to separate, their feelings for each other were made very clear with a goodbye kiss that was beyond platonic. In a story peppered with rhetoric about living with past decisions, Jason’s potential meeting with Amanda while his wife stands by him could cause some serious romantic tensions.
Dark Matter Season 2 may finally answer the mystery of where the Descendents end up
The original novel by Blake Crouch also leaves where the desenses go
Besides the various sub-plots of the side characters, which were introduced for the Apple TV + adaptation, the Dark matter Show ends in very much the same way as the book. The source material never reveals where the Descens travel to when they enter the Box. A brief description is provided, and while it doesn’t exactly match how the futuristic Chicago is portrayed, it doesn’t exactly rule it out.
“Get up, I pull Daniela to her feet, and we go to our son as the cold, sterile vacuum of the corridor fills with warmth and light. A wind through the door carries the scent of wet earth and unknown flowers. A world just Another storm.”
This intended vagueness never resulted in a second book being written, which suggests Crouch first wanted to leave what happened next to the reader’s imagination. Since then, it seems that the author / showrunner has changed his mind, and Apple TV + gives him the opportunity to finally show where the characters went and what they did after the events of the original Dark matter book.
Based on his novel of the same name, Dark Matter is a sci-fi drama-thriller television series created for Apple TV+ by Blake Crouch. The series follows a physicist who is kidnapped and thrown into an alternate reality where he witnesses one potential path his life could have taken. However, he learns that his family’s life is in jeopardy by an alternate version of himself.
