Fourth Wing Ridoc’s wildest theory is more convincing thanks to a little dragon detail

One little detail makes it wild Fourth Wing theory about Ridoc even more convincing. Many theories and possibilities about the next chapter of The Empyrean Series emerged after the cliffhanger ending of Iron Flame left the public with questions. Most of these theories have centered on Violet and Xaden’s personal and combined arcs, but the other characters have not been ignored. Audiences have posited a variety of theories about the supporting charactersincluding Imogen, Mira, Sawyer and surprisingly even Ridoc.

For the most part, the theories surrounding Ridoc have not been very positiveas many assume that Ridoc may not survive onyx storm due to his limited comedic role and development. However, a theory about Reddit has a different idea of where Ridoc’s story is going, stating that he could actually be bonded to two dragons like Violet, giving him a second seal. While it’s a crazy theory, there are several moments and details in the series that could confirm it, including something as simple as the meaning of Ridoc’s dragon’s name.

Aotrom’s name makes the Fourth Wing’s wildest Ridoc theory more convincing

Aotrom’s name defies series convention

The meaning of Aotrom’s name in Scottish Gaelic, the language Rebecca Yarros used to name all the dragons in Fourth Wing, makes the wild theory that Ridoc may have a second signet or even a second dragon more convincing. Each Fourth WingDragons throughout the series have names whose meanings correspond to the signet or disposition of their knights, with some also suggesting the fate of these characters. Examples include Sgaeyl meaning shadow, Codagh meaning war, Tairneanach meaning thunder, and Claidh, dragon of Amber Mavis, meaning cemetery.

Yet Aotrom in Scottish Gaelic means light in reference to weight, breaking this clear convention since Ridoc is an ice wielder and this does not reflect his personality. However, it adds evidence to the theory that Ridoc could have a second signet and even another dragon. Aotrom’s name could imply that Ridoc is a distance wielder, while his other dragon could ironically have an ice-based name to explain his signet. Of course, this crazy theory has other evidence to support it, making it fun to consider while audiences wait for Fourth Wingnext installment.

There is other evidence that Ridoc has a second signet (and perhaps a second dragon)

Ridoc’s tattoo and phrasing contribute to this theory

Next to Aotrom’s name, Ridoc’s tattoo and phrasing Iron Flame all point to him potentially having a second signet or even a second dragon, making this a fascinating and strongly plausible scenario Fourth Wing theory. Ridoc’s tattoo on Iron Flame is one of the greatest pieces of evidence for this theoryas Aotrom’s rude behavior and his placement so close to his relic are at odds. Not only that, but the book mentions his tattoo several times, giving Ridoc more detailed attention than other secondary characters.

Another piece of evidence to support this wild Ridoc theory is his phrasing in certain scenes. Ridoc’s defensiveness after sharing his fear of snakes and stating that “Dragons know” in Iron Flame points to the fact that Ridoc is hiding something and that could be another dragon bond. Ridoc also stated that he “I woke up somewhere I didn’t expect” which could imply the manifestation of his seal of remote management. Although this would be a fun twist for Fourth Wing, Ridoc doesn’t necessarily need another dragon to make this theory canon.

Ridoc may not need another dragon to have a second signet on the fourth wing

Ridoc’s Connection to Aotrom Could Mirror Quinn’s Dragon Bond

Ridoc may not need another dragon bond to have a second signet Fourth Wingas the revelation could be similar to Quinn’s second signet. There are three nominees Fourth Wing characters who have second seals: Violet due to having two dragons and Xaden and Quinn due to bonding with a dragon that one of their ancestors was previously bonded to. It’s more likely that Ridoc, if he has a second signet, mirrored Quinn how his great-aunt bonded her dragon, giving him the ability to transform slightly alongside his astral projection signet.

The air manipulation would fit in and comedically explain Ridoc’s line about waking up somewhere else, as he could have literally blown himself up.

One of Ridoc’s ancestors could have bonded with Aotrom, explaining why Ridoc has a second signet and why it took so long to appear. If that’s the case, his second signet would likely match his main one, like Quinn’s, with possibilities including air or water manipulation. The air manipulation would fit in and comedically explain Ridoc’s line about waking up somewhere else, as he could have literally blown himself up. Anyway, this Fourth Wing the theory is too fun not to explore and has too many pieces not to examine as onyx storm approaches.
