Tom Cruise returns as Cage with new advanced armor in Edge of Tomorrow 2
poster art. Released in 2014 and directed by Doug Liman, the first film follows Cage as he works with Emily Blunt’s Rita to repel an alien invasion of Earth, with the day restarting every time Cruise’s character dies. The film received generally positive reviews and was a modest box office success and since then there has been continued interest in a potential Edge of Tomorrow 2. The sequel, however, has faced difficulties in development and it is still unclear whether it will actually happen.
Esh-El on Instagram now shares AI-generated posters imagining Cruise’s armored return in Edge of Tomorrow 2. All images feature different versions of the powered exoskeleton armor from the first filmand all added new sci-fi twists to the design. Several, for example, are clearly inspired by Master Chief’s armor from the Halo franchise. Check out selected images from Esh-El’s gallery below:
What The Updated Armor Would Mean For Edge Of Tomorrow 2
Any sequel would likely feature a time jump
THE Edge of Tomorrow the ending largely concludes Cage’s story and Earth is apparently saved. It’s not entirely clear, then, what a sequel would be about, but the alien invaders from the first film are probably still somewhere in the universe. Perhaps a sequel would see Cage, Rita and other human soldiers fighting the aliens this timebut whatever fight lies ahead, armor will apparently play an important role in it.
It’s been 10 years since Edge of Tomorrow was released, and Cruise and Blunt have aged and look different now. Any sequel, at this point, would have to feature some sort of time jump from the end of the first film. to explain this, and this leap in time means an advance in human technology. The exo-suit armor featured in the first film will certainly receive some updates if Edge of Tomorrow 2 happens, and that could mean even more extreme combat sequences.
Our Take on Tom Cruise’s Future 2 Potential Return
Is it too late for the sequel?
Even ten years later, reports continue to emerge stating that Cruise, Blunt and Liman are still interested in making a Edge of Tomorrow 2. At some point, though, that ship will sail and it just won’t make sense to revisit a film that was never a big hit. It could be argued that this moment of navigation has arrived and that it might be best left Edge of Tomorrow as an independent action sci-fi.
That said, it would still be great to see Cruise and Blunt reunited for a sequel, and it’s likely that any sequel could put fun twists on elements of the original, including its time travel and futuristic technology. Leaning more into the exo-suit armor could also be interestingas Cruise’s action sequences typically show him free of such devices. In any case, it is clear that the interest in Edge of Tomorrow 2 remains, and we hope more news about the sequel emerges in the near future.

Edge of Tomorrow 2 is the follow-up film to Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Talk of a sequel began quickly after the first was released in 2014, but Edge of Tomorrow 2 was stuck in development hell for years, with multiple scripts being written.
