Marvel boss Kevin Feige’s new comments make me think the new X-Men The MCU team will be set up similarly to the original Avengers team in Phase 1. Feige first teased the integration of mutants into the MCU in 2019, shortly after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox was finalized. In the five years since then, we’ve been patiently waiting for the X-Men to make their official debut, and while I’ve been disappointed that the team has yet to appear, Feige’s new comments have me very excited for the future of mutants in the MCU.
Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot saw its first major update in May 2024, when The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Birds and Snakes writer Michael Lesslie was tasked with writing the script (via Deadline). I think Marvel feels a lot of pressure to get the X-Men right, since of the fox X-Men The franchise has seen its ups and downs and has rarely faithfully adapted some of Marvel Comics’ most iconic characters. Marvel Studios can do better, and Kevin Feige’s new comments make me think it will do so by taking inspiration from the MCU’s original Avengers team.
Kevin Feige Teased X-Men Heroes in Upcoming MCU Projects
Marvel has already introduced several mutants into the MCU
Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore in November 2024 (via Deadline)Kevin Feige addressed the future of the X-Men in the MCU, and his comments made me even more excited. In addition to increasing expectations for 2025 Rays* and The Fantastic Four: Getting Started, Feige noted that we will see “some X-Men players who [we] can recognize” in the MCU “upcoming movies.” Feige’s comments make me think that the post-Avengers: Secret Wars will be intensely focused on mutants, but we’ll see some members of the X-Men much sooner.
I think you’ll see this continue in our upcoming films with some X-Men players you might recognize. Soon after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really takes us to a new era of mutants and the X-Men. Again, [it’s] One of those dreams came true. We finally have the X-Men back.
Marvel Studios recently brought a slew of fantastical mutants into the official MCU continuity, as 2024 Deadpool and Wolverine bridged the gap between the MCU’s Earth-616 and Fox’s Earth-10005. However, Deadpool and Wolverine caught up with Fox’s mutants X-Men franchise, so we’re still waiting for the MCU’s official X-Men team to appear. Feige’s comments suggest that preparation for the X-Men will begin very soon, which takes me back to Phase 1 and makes me think that the X-Men will finally be handled properly in the MCU.
The MCU’s X-Men setup reminds me of Phase 1’s Avengers
The original Avengers team was formed over four years
The idea that core X-Men members could be introduced into the MCU “upcoming movies” before coming together to form the team of mutant superheroes later Secret Wars reminds me of the setup of the original Avengers team in Phase 1 of the MCU. Unlike some other superhero franchises, Marvel Studios took its time putting together the Avengers, bringing them together in the 2012 film of the same name The Avengers only after everyone has already been introduced. This process lasted four years, with some heroes having bigger roles than others, but we know them all.

I would love for this to be the case with the MCU’s next X-Men team as well. It would be great for us to meet all of the main members of the X-Men individually in future projects, fleshing them out as existing characters in the MCU and allowing us to better understand who they are as individuals before they team up. like the X-Men. The prospect of seeing the likes of Professor X, Jean Grey, Rogue and perhaps even a new Wolverine, among others, very soon has me incredibly excited about the MCU’s next slate.
The X-Men will be treated with care in the MCU
The formation of the original Avengers team over four years and five films had its final formation in 2012. The Avengers even brighter. Marvel Studios could jump right into the action with very little preparation, as each member had already been introduced and prepared to join the Avengers. I’m thrilled that the same can be done with the X-Men. Marvel needs to take it easy and be careful and thoughtful when reinventing the X-Menas Fox has had a solid two-decade run with these iconic mutant characters, but now I have more faith in the X-Men will stand out in the MCU.
Marvel’s X-Men is the working title for the upcoming debut of Marvel’s legendary team of mutant superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
