A new one Ahsoka Theory suggests Grand Admiral Thrawn may not be next Star Wars Big bad after all. While points like The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka Having built Thrawn up as a major antagonist for the New Republic era, he may not be the most dangerous threat to the galaxy far, far away.
Currently, it is widely accepted that Dave Filoni’s upcoming Star Wars movie could very well be a canonical adaptation of heir to the empireThe first of legends Throne trilogy By Timothy Zahn where the Grand Admiral also returned to the familiar Star Wars Galaxy in the aftermath of the original trilogy. However, new evidence of Ahsoka has teased a much bigger villain in the works, one that would likely surpass Thrawn in the biggest New Republic. Here’s why Grand Admiral Thrawn might not be the biggest bad come to this Star Wars Galaxy.

Leading an Imperial resurgence during the New Republic era
After the events of Ahsoka In season one, Grand Admiral Thrawn and his Nightsister allies returned to prominence Star Wars Galaxy after Thrawn’s time in exile that lasted nearly a decade. Meanwhile, Thrawn seems to be located on Dathomir, presumably preparing to lead an Imperial resurgence and unite the various fragments of the Empire under one banner. To that end, it looks like Thrawn was set up as the primary big bad during the New Republic era.
The collection of shows from the New Republic currently includes The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba FettAnd Ahsoka. Likewise, it will soon include 2024s Skeleton Crew Series, 2026s Mandalorian & Grogu movie, Ahsoka Season 2, and eventually Dave Filoni’s currently untitled New Republic film that reportedly culminates all the previous projects with an epic storyline/crossover, one many expect will star Grand Admiral Thrawn as the leading protagonist. However, the threat of Thrawn and the Imperial Remnant may just be the beginning.
Ahsoka seems to have set up something much bigger… Abeloth
A being of pure chaos and entropy
While Thrawn looks to be the clear Imperial threat the New Republic will likely have to contend with, you can also expect more supernatural threats such as Thrawn’s Nightsister allies and their dark side magics. after all, Ahsoka Finale has already proven their ability to resurrect Thrawn’s fallen troops just like the deceased sisters of their clan (which Dathomir has in abundance). however, Ahsoka Also set up even bigger supernatural beings, and possibly one major threat.
As seen at the end of Ahsoka, Baylan Skoll discovers massive statues of the Mortis gods on Peridea. Celestial anchorites who influence the flow of the Force itself, the Mortis Gods first debuted in The Clone Wars Season 3 when Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka Tano inadvertently meet the father, son, and daughter. After Anakin wants to replace the father as a keeper of the balance, the son kills his sister, representing the dark side overwhelming the light.
To that end, it seems like the Mortis gods have a role to play in the future of the New Republic. If not them, at least their legacy and/or the monster they’re tasked with guarding in non-canon Legends: Abeloth. A being of pure chaos and entropy determined to bring an end to the Force, Abeloth was once part of the Mortis Gods’ family as the Mother, despite her mortal status.
Fearing death, the mother drank and bathed in the forbidden fountain of power and pool of knowledge, an act that corrupted and transformed her into the immortal monster Abeloth, forcing the son and daughter to lock her away. However, Abeloth would always break free of her imprisonment when the flow of the Force was altered. This proved problematic for Legends’ New Republic timeline, as the daughter’s death during the Clone Wars meant that Abeloth remained unchecked until Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Order and The Lost Tribe of the Sith came together to defeat her once more.
Is Grand Admiral a misdirect for viewers?
Throne may just be the prelude…
keep this in mind, Perhaps the canon New Republic timeline will follow a similar trajectory with Abeloth being the presence calling to Baylan in Ahsoka from which the night-sisters thought they were running away. Likewise, runes of Ahsoka The premiere was recently translated, revealing a rhyme with “The Three”, a secret path they are tasked with protecting, and the threat of death, which could be the Mortis Gods and Abeloth:
There were three who made the journey, without whose knowledge there is no return. A way connecting near and far, crossing the heavens star to star.
Despite great powers that object, the secret way the three protect. So watch the way with a watchful eye, for if you wander, you will die.
Ann Abelot joined the Star Wars Cannon and Frey by Baylan would easily be the bigger threat next to Thrawn. Ultimately, Thrawn could become the prelude to the New Republic’s endgame. The Grand Admiral and his forces can keep the New Republic busy, while the real threat is in true Abeloth.
Perhaps Abeloth will be freed by Baylan Skoll with the feinted promise to help him end the Star Wars Galaxy’s cycle of war and violence he claimed he wanted to break into Ahsoka. Regardless, Abeloth is a threat not only to the Light Side, but to the Force in its entirety.. As compelling and popular as Toon still is, a villain like this would certainly make for a very exciting on-screen Star Wars Villain.
